It makes them smell Pretttttyyy!
Theory I've heard is that it's attractive to other dogs. They don't like smelling like our weird man made chemicals. They're still a little wild at heart.
Either that or they are inherently evil and are trying to wear you down so they can takeover the household and the fridge!

I dont know why they do that... They like to be dirty i guess. Mine rolls all over the couch and carpets making everything smell like wet dog. Just dont let your dog outside.

It seems to be their nature to roll in the stinkyest things they can find.Evidently they like to smell like Poop, mine does the same thing if I let him out after a bath.

to mask their scent- it is an animal instinct to blend into the environment for protection. Although we domesticated animals, their natural instinct is strong. Mine will roll in the dirt , leaves whatever as soon as they are outside. They are just doing what comes naturally.

Because to them it's like adding a good smelling conditioner. Dogs like stinky things. Maybe switch shampoo, but I have a feeling your dog like's to be stinky.

I think wild canines will do this to cover their own scent to enable hunting. My dog is crazy after i wash him..rolling and making weird sounds too...funny stuff!

excellent question but only for those who have a dog and know the answer. i have a dog. the answer is the dog--want to smell himself..and let other dogs know he smells too...that is a two way attraction between dogs. voila. it explains. my dog once did it on "****" (sorry) while i was not watching in a park..and it took me sometime to clean and clean myself too. use baking powder to clean to dog..it helps....good luck and good smell.
