First you want to figure out which antenna would work or even if it would be worth it. Click on the link bellow and follow the directions. It asks for your name and address but you only really need to supply the Zip Code and state. Click submit and it shows you a street map of the center of the Zip Code supplied. Click continue and it gives a list of available stations, with corresponding antenna types. Basically all antennas have a color code. I would go one higher than what you need. It sucks to get the $65 antenna when what you needed was the $80 antenna and now you just spent $145 for an $80 antenna.

The second link has alot of info on antennas and digital receivers and HDTV and stuff like that. Dont let digital fool you. Almost anything that works with digital signals, antenna wise, will work with analog (regular tv) and vise versa.

I dont think its worth the risk to try to not pay. Maybe research the cable companies, see who has the most local channels and in my experience, rabbit ears are not very reliable.

The cheapest I can think of is a pair of old rabbit ears and mount it on the roof.
