Before people become Christian they confess to God, repent of being a sinner, confess Jesus Christ their Lord & believe in their heart the atonement & resurrection. This is the born of God experience. A water baptism represents it. The old sinful man's sins are washed away. The new man in Christ alive forever more.
This is only done once. For once born of God, God won't abort you. He will never leave you or forsake you. Who is he who overcomes? He who is born of God. What is our victory? Our faith. (1-3 John).
Our sins are washed away with His redeeming blood, but when God convicts us of a sin (we will sin again), we need to confess our sins to God. He is faithful & just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John).
We are a work in progress. When God makes us right, He renews our mind with truth that sets us free from continuing in a sin. Any sin is really based on believing something wrong. When we wilfully disobey God, God disciplines. If we continue stubornly, God may take us home early.

Even non-Christian should ask for forgiveness if he does mistake against someone. Christians practice of asking forgiveness from sinning is a good practice of humility towards himself. Doing the same sin is just a sign of weakness and asking for forgiveness repeatedly would someday really help someone not do it again once and for all. It is like trying to quit smoking. There will be many times you will promise to attempt and fail until there is a point that you will tell yourself enough is enough and then you finally decide.

I ask for forgiveness because I know that I have failed in something.
Yes, I know I'm going to sin again. But, I pray that it's not a repeat.
I'm still a member of the human race. Never left.
If you offend a friend of yours and admit your mistake and ask for forgiveness from your friend, does this mean you're out of the human race?

It is because I am in the fallen human race that I sin in the first place.. Asking for forgiveness each time (confessing) accomplishes a couple of things:
- keeps a clean slate with God
- by the very act of verbalizing my sin each time makes me more aware of it than if I just ignored it and works toward me not wanting to repeat it.
I do it because God requires me to in his Word. That is good enough reason for me.

It's OK to ask for forgiveness, Allah told us that there's not even one single perfect human being that didn't sin, even the prophets!

We ask for forgiveness because we know we have sinned against and offended God.
Yes, we also know we are weak and that is when we need to pray and ask for forgiveness the most because it is only through God that we are strengthened and only with God's strength and mercy that we are able to overcome our human weaknesses.
"I can do all things through God who strengthens me."

No, because I'm a human being. And I was given free will, to do with what I want. And I will do it again.
