YES I DID!!!!! I got a tattoo at the age of 30. Just got a divorce and I was on a down hill rollercoaster ride. Out of the blue a friend of my brother-in-law asked if I wanted a tattoo. Well I said is it going to hurt? He laughed. In the end I got a beautiful butterfly hovering over a rose. I did that to celebrate my freedom to a better life. Well I went to my mothers about three weeks later to go swimming in the pool. I didn't realize nor think about my tattoo on my ankle. All of a sudden I heard a gasping noise from my GRANDMOTHER! Bless her soul...she looked at me and said: "Lisa I never thought I would see the day you would mark your body like that...I just never thought you would do a thing like that!!" well she got over it and it's been almost ten years and it still reminds me of the best time in my life besides getting remarried to my new husband....he outranks most anyone I've dated or known.

Yep! I'm 36, mom to a 6 year old and I got my first tattoo a month ago. I've always wanted want but was too chicken and too afraid of what other people would think. But, after going through a traumatic heart breaking situation, I finally realized life is too short and I went for it. I love it and every time I look at it (it's around my ankle) I remind myself than I'm stronger than I think! (and, no, it didn't really hurt - it was just annoying).

Not me, but my uncle (21) did. He was supposed to be the youngest and the kid that was cared and loved the most. He never gave any problems. But, then came out of the rebel shell and did a big *** tattoo on his arm. You gotta a new one or what? Proud that when you get old, the flower will wrinkle and look like a deformed birth mark?!

When I was younger I thought about getting one for a statement, but now I'm very glad not to have a black panther on my chest! But, I've still been thinking about getting one for a significant occasion that happened in my life and I think this is the best reason to get one because that thing that happened will never be taken from your history. But why not just stay clean and donate the money.

My mom is wanting to get a tattoo.. and she's 52 years old, just finished chemo, and is going through radiation. She wants to do it because "it's something she never thought of doing"!!!

My parents told me not to get one, and when they found out, the were pretty upset, but I was like, 'I always told you I wanted one'. Also my uni supervisor was pretty surprised when I mentioned it one day.

Well I didn't consider it out of character, I think it suits me. But the folks at work did seem surprised, their comment..."But you're so quiet." How odd they would associate my desire to chatter with my desire to decorate my body.
