if the guy is turning 18 in a few months. if it were ok for this case would it be ok for a grown man to date a 17 year old female? why is there a double standard and why is it generally accepted for females?

Practically speaking, I think you'd have better luck of a long term relationship succeeding if you were to stick with people closer to your own age.

Legally speaking, statutory rape laws in the US vary from state to state. In some states the age is 16. In most states it is 18. It just isn't worth it to risk prison if things turn ugly.

Realistically speaking, I think there's nothing wrong with this relationship (from the little you have told us). Go for it.

The double standard exists due to millenia of patriarchal rule. Times have changed though, it is perfectly acceptable for older women to see younger men. Don't take any flack from people with respect to issues like these.

I would find it more normal for a man in his mid-twenties to be dating a younger girl. A little wierd maybe but more the norm. I personally haven't seen many guys under 18 dating women in their 20's. The immaturity level is way too high in boys that age.

I "dated" a 17 year old when I was 35 & his Mother was the only problem. I see these types of reversed roles quite often. They usually don't last because it's all just a phase for most people.

For men, you're a stud if you can get a girl who's much older than you. For a woman, it's perceived that she's such a loser that she has to leave her own generation for someone younger who won't care about her shortcomings. Double standards suck but that's the way it is.

I'm not sure why it would be unacceptable. I wouldn't think anything about it, but I could give 2 craps what other people either. As far as double standards, they're everywhere.

I think it's okay for either gender. To me, it's whatever floats your boat. I mind my business. Now if it were a forty year old woman and an eighteen year old, I would think the b i t c h was desperate.

Because...anything goes.

(Now, that's a complete answer, and I get two points and the Yahoo Police won't take that away from me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

To elaborate....It takes two to tango.

If the lady prefers a man before he becomes of legal age, then she has a preference for something, shall we say, similar to motherhood. Usually they won't work, but who can say for sure.

Welcome to the new world where feminism dominates and the men learned how to "knuckle under".

It's just my own opinion, but if the two people involved here like each other, enjoy each other's company, and want to be together, then I see no problem.

Well, it's not breaking any laws, but I think the maturity issue needs to be considered.
