Here is the problem. I tried to make a separate user account for my wife and switched her to "limited user" after creating my own account as the "system administrator". I then logged off while still on my wifes specified account. I tried to log back in to log on to my account to realize there was still only one account. And here is the kicker. I can only log on as a "limited user" with that account. So now I cant download, update, or system restore to correct the problem as a "limited user". I tried to XP trouble shoot but couldnt find a solution. I figured I would ask you guys before I wiped my comp. Any ideas?

okay this is easy. step
1. restart the computer, this is a must
2. dont log on, but hit ctrl, alt, delete, delete(hit the delete key twice) this should have changed the log on screen
3. now in the user name field type in administrator and for the password leave it blank(if you didnt put in a password while installing xp, if you did put in that password)
4. you now have admin priv, add a new account and make it a full priv account.

You do realize Windows vista will be finished in less than 7 days and that you can get a new computer with an express upgrade to Windows Vista from October 26 to March 15, 2007 for free excluding $10 shipping and handling(www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/expressupgrade) Before you wipe your computer try or consider upgrading to Vista, it has improved features and better user account controls and security.
Cause XP will be history(will seen old and yet it is old 5 years between these OS's) by next year!

Surely by now you have turned off your PC and perhaps turned it back on.

When you turned it back on, did you not see two icons for yourself and your wife?

You state you created an account for your wife after you created your own account. It couldn't have disappeared.

Do you get an option to "switch users"?
Click Start, cl Log off. cl Switch user. Then, click the new user's account name.

Can you create a "new account" for yourself?

I would be interested in knowing how you solved this - if you would be good enough to send a message.

If you set up a "Administrator Password" you should be able to use it to make any changes you want to. There may be a folder in the control panel for passwords. If there is, open it and make changes from the 'administrator' account. otherwise, open "user accounts" from the control panel, and reset anything you want there.
