Recently, I had a coworker, who is higher in rank than me, make a somewhat rude comment about my job position and the money that I make. When he was saying it, his body language and tone didn't indicate that he was joking. I was definitely offended by what he had said. So later on that day I brought it up to him that I thought his comment was uncalled for and unwelcome. He responded by saying that he was only joking and that he jokes around with everyone. I told him that I don't know him that well yet and it was hard for me to tell that he was joking with me. So he apologized and I accepted his apology. A few days later, we went out to lunch with coworkers and, while joking around with others, he made comments such as "I like that Marty (or whover) doesn't get mad at me when I joke with him". And he made these comments in front of everyone else. He probably did it at least 4 times. What would you do you in this type of situation?

I hate the excuse "just kidding" to me it is a way to get out of being responsible for your comments.
I would avoid this person at all costs. He will get the message. He sounds like the type of person that has to put others down to make him feel important. Just know that he feels unworthy and less than.
Good luck w/all that. I know what your saying.

I work with the queen of RUDE. This woman is a force to be reckoned with. She is the type that she is so sweet to your face it almost gives you a tooth ache but in a sarcastic way. Then gets the whole crowd pulled into her little web of mischief that she causes everyone else to hate each other.to the point she makes the other nurse cry. But I refuse to let her control how I feel and I just smile and tell her "you are the type of person who can smile while they stab you in the heart and twist the knife aren't you glad you can be mean to me and I WON"T cry. She is pissed at me most of the time but I refuse to let her pull me down to her level. She can bite me! So as for this jerk you will figure out how to deal with him after you figure out how his LITTLE mind works.

That's easy, just be "funny" back at him. Try to poke fun at his sexuality and equipment, then if he gets mad say "I was just joking, I thought you likes rude jokes." or something to that effect. Having it thrown in your face like that forces you to think about it.

Next time he says he was just joking tell him that jokes are supposed to be funny.

Well, he sounds nasty. I agree with the others. Avoid him as much as humanly possible. He's not someone I'd want to be around.

He's a jerk who uses his so called "sense of humor" to insult people. I would avoid any but absolutely necessary contact with him.
