It is a form of idolatry. PSALMS 115:4-8---"Their idols are silver and gold, The work of men's hands. They have mouths, but they speak not; Eyes have they, but they see not; They have ears, but they hear not; Noses have they, but they smell not; They have hands, but they handle not; Feet have they, but they walk not; Neither speak they through their throat. They that make them shall be like unto them; Yea, every one that trusteth in them."
(Many crosses are made with the body of Jesus on them), and then there are all the religious statues and pictures that people use in their worship.
Christians should follow this--"for we walk by faith, not by sight"--2 Corinthians 5:7

Wearing the cross is an effort to honor and thank God for our many blessings. Also, we're supposed to behave in such a way that would attract people to our faith (shown by the cross).
If you trash people's faith simply because they're wearing a religious symbol, are you doing that because you want attention? Why are you so obsessed with ridiculing others?

Most Christians wear crosses for the same reason most Wiccans wear a pentacle, the same reason some Norse wear Thor's hammer, as a personal reminder of their beliefs and the God/desses they follow.

True Christians do not wear crosses. The cross is a pagan symbol that predates Christianity by thousands of years. True Christians do not need a physical reminder of the object they believe Christ was murdered on. Instead, they go on "walking by faith, not by sight." See 2 Cor. 5:7.

I wear a very discreet gold cross that my husband bought me. I wear it because it reminds me daily of the reason why I am alive and why I am allowed to have second chances and do not have to feel bad about myself for my imperfections, and because it is special to me for a different reason. My husband bought it for me before he was saved because he knew how much my faith meant to me. i thought that was wonderful that he would acknowledge my faith even though he did not share it. Now that he has been saved it seems to be even more special so I doubt I will ever be without it. And it will probably the only piece of Jewelry I will ask specifically to be buried with.

People where crosses or crucifixes as ways to express their faith. I have worn both pretty much my entire life and have never been embarassed or "trashed".
Bigger question is - why does this bother you so much???

yeah some of them wear their crosses and for different reasons - some of the reasons are the ones you mention -
sometimes its good to wear a symbol like that especially around evil people so they know you are not one of them - you are good - you are christian.
I wore my pendant of st micheal slaying satan so people would know where they stand with me. Atheists and pagans usually resent it but then again I did not want to mix with them.
Satanists and Wiccans wear their symbols such as pentegrams. The world is inverted and the beast is loose with most bearing his mark. Churches will fall when the beast comes. I pray I and other chrisitans are protected from you and your kind.

The cross is a symbol of faith and a remberance of what sacrafice was made. I don't wear one, mainly cause I don't like wearing jewelery, but this coming Christmas I plan on getting one tatooed onto my wrist.
Its just a way to show my loyalties...
