Probably he's going crazy. That's sad. Check with your veterinarian, it's the best you can do.

Neither, probably. We tease our older dog about her hypersensitive hearing: "Did a leaf move???" Seriously, some dogs are just more sensitive than others. Although she is almost 12 years old, she can spot a rodent (rabbit, squirrel, etc.) in the middle of the dark at 50 yards and has a loud keening bark to let us know that a rodent DARED to enter her property. Remember, to a dog, anything in sight is their property. I'd give your dog a little credit and see what it is that is making him bark.

No your dog is not seeing spirits and he is´nt loosing it,
I´m guessuíng your dog isn´t that old yet?,maybee a year and some?. Most dogs go thrue a phase during maturing we like to call the ghost period where the dog start acting funny (barking, staring etc) when seeing a normal everyday objekt like a tree or a fire hydrant. We don´t know why dogs go thru this phase or why but we do know that most do and that it is apassing phenomena. Hope this puts you att ease

My parrot screams at nothing too. And I have heard that birds like to hear themselves screem and they like the loudness of it. Plus, when she is screaming she thinks she is talking or singing - especailly if music is playing. It think it's the same with dogs. Your dog is probably singing, talking or likes to listen to his own barking. Maybe he is practicing for a time when he really needs to let off some good loud barking...Maybe he is lonely and wants to come inside with his family?

Dogs have extremly sensitive hearing... more than 10 times ours. So what you may thing is nothing, your dog is barking at a noise it is hearing.

actually my mom sees spirits and things like that....i have too and im only 13.. i believe in stuff like that, i also believe if you have had other pets in the past they r still there and ur dog is either sensing or seeing them.. or it may be one of your friends thats have passed away or a family member.. but you have nothing to worry about they can't hurt you....they may just be trying to tell you sumthing. they can sumtimes come through elextricity so like if sum1 calls and no1 is there it may be a spirit, you never no!!

your dogs hearing and smelling are lots stronger than ours. i think the same about my dogs sometimes especially at night when i am trying to sleep. but they hear things we don't.

and sure enough, if i let them outside when they begin to bark, usually there is something or someone near that i did not hear, but they did!

It is possible the dog is barking at spirits, if the dog is barking at one particular spot/location (a certain room, a new house, etc) and is usually friendly/civil when no where near that particular area.
