Okay...so My 2002 ford taurus ran out of gas. the gas gauge hasnt been working. It ran out. So I went and got more gas. Now it will not start. It tries to start. Do you think it is the fuel pump or injectors? It is an electrical pump. Did I really screw it up now??? Please help!!!

you cant pour gas in the carb,it dont have one, there is no way to get gas throught the injectors. go to a parts store get a can of ether and spray some through the air intake(through the tube that goes from the air filter to the engine) that should start it. what happened is when you ran out of gas you lost the prime so when it starts on the ether the engine helps pull it through the gas lines.
as for your original problem the gas gauge not working you will have to replace the fuel sending unit that is in the fuel tank so you might as well get everything the fuel pump and sending unit. most of the time you can get them together.

it is probaly flooded, don't continue to pump the gas when your trying to start it..your injectors could be clogged depending on what type of gas you use, try putting some 91 from cheveron and add some lucas fuel cleaner in it when you add the gas it will clean out your fuel system and injectors. if it still doesn't start but does continue to try and turn over then you can narrow down the prob. it's not the starter.. so i would take it and have the fuel pump tested..it sounds like that would be the culprit...:) good luck

When you run out of gas your engine will have to crank many times before starting. It just takes a while to get the gas to your injectors. It will also help if your car is on level ground, if it is not you should at least put 5 gal. of gas in your tank before trying to start it.

Turn the key on and listen carefully, if the fuel pump is working you should hear it. Check for fuel pressure while cranking the engine over. (should have a mechanic do this) If there is no pressure the fuel pump is damaged caused by running our of gas.
Best of luck to ya!

If I remember right you may just need to put a little gas in your fuel injector to get it going. I ask someone at autozone just for some quick free advice. I doubt it is something serious. If you take it to a mechanic; you better plan on getting a new fuel infector and pay a couple hundred dollars.

Could be vapor lock, could be you picked up something off the bottom of the tank. Never let your car get below 1/4 of a tank. Hard to say.
