Seriously, I know that it says in the Bible (sorry I'll use Christianity as an example) to convert people who arent Christian. But why still do it in this day and age when it can cause so much trouble?
A lot of Christians get angry if they simply hear what my religion is, yet they expect us to listen and except theres with open arms.
I am not trying to say that all Christians do this, but some do.
I guess I'm trying to say why push your religion on others, would you really like it if others pushed their religion on you?
I mean no disrespect, its just that I cannot imagine telling someone they are lost without my faith and that they should convert. I wouldnt push my religion on anyone, I will discuss it openly if people ask but not try and sell it to them.
Any thoughts?

When it comes down to it, if you have a religion that you firmly believe is true, then you want to spread the "good news". You feel the need to share what you feel with others and pass it on if at all possible. This is regardless of what religion it is. Some religions go so far as to say one will be damned forever if they don't join so try to save as many as that will follow. Others believe their own salvation rides on converting others. Those who don't believe in anything just want to be right and show others how wrong they can be, and possibly live a life without the constraints of a religion. in the end it's just the big debate of who's and and wrong.

Have you ever wondered how ridiculous it is to see and witness people fighting over one religion or the other? Promoting any religion is no different than promoting the Easter Bunny over the Tooth Fairy. The stories from the Bible, Koran, or the Iliad are entertaining and no different. I enjoy the similarities regarding all organized religions "moral stories" These books have so many similar stories in them because they were stolen from the Mesopotamia era. If they had Google thousands of years ago, they would all be busted for plagiarism.

How did you come to know your faith? Did your parents pass it down to you and did their parents pass it down to them and so on so forth? Did you ever question your version of your particular belief?

We all generally have a mechanism built inside of us that helps us recognize fraud, or getting swindled. That mechanism has its roots in logic, reason and skepticism. To believe in any version of organized religion, you must shut that part of your brain off. To someone with a healthy ability to sense a rip-off, your question seems absurd. Because for anyone to argue over something so completely irrelevant to their lives, is almost humorous if it weren't so sad.

Religions and their dogma are man-made and if you chose to use your valuable time thinking there is some magical entity watching you and caring about which "truth" you believe in, that's your prerogative.

Belief in any organized religion to logical minded people seems downright stupid. Remember thousands of years ago, people believed in sun gods, water gods, Zeus, Medusa and other mythology. We all laughed in school pondering, how did these Greek and Roman people believe in such ridiculous myths?

One day, looking back on us, students will say the same thing regarding our modern day organized religions...Adam & Eve, Noah, Moses, burning bushes and angels, Don't eat pork, Can't drive on the Sabbath. Can't have blood transfusions...Can't eat meat on Fridays...I would like to start a cult and see what absurd things I could get my flock to believe in and do.

Well, I understand your point, but I think you're overlooking a small factor (or maybe you didn't miss it, and I'm overlooking *that*!). "Promoting" a faith is not the same as "pushing" a faith on someone. I'll definitely agree with you that a lot of Christians push their religion on others, but it is possible to promote one's faith humbly. One such way is to live out one's faith openly, so that others may see what his faith is like, and perhaps be attracted to it. I will not preach my faith to one who does not wish to listen, but I will not stop living out my faith just for those who disagree with my religion. For example, I am saving myself for marriage -- some will look upon me with disdain, while others will think it admirable. I will not preach against those who aren't doing the same as me, but at the same time, I will not stop practicing this chastity.

Some people are upset when others are of a different religion because they don't like the unfamiliarand/ or people who have conflicting ideas/beliefs.

I don't really think my religion is anyone else's business because why does anyone need to know? I have mentioned it on rare occasions but it doesn't make a difference in anyone's life unless I'm going to marry that person.

The obvious answer is that many believe that truth (their perception) is important and that people will be eternally harmed if they do not convert. For some, not promoting their faith would be similar to having the cure for cancer and keeping it to themselves.

When I use the term Bible I think of Judaism. Religious Jews only try to bring non-religious Jews back to Judaism. People can convert to Judaism but we discourage them since they might not be able to handle all the obligations of being Jewish.

How can I Possibly have faith in any religion when people on opposite sides kill and die in the name of the same God? That doesn't make any sense. Religion is and always will be a political tool. And if there is a God, I'm almost certain that he is ashamed of us.

you shouldn't. one of the sins in satanism, simply put, is "do not give your opinion unless asked." i think satanism, buddhism, daoism, pantheism, etc, are great philosiphies / religions to live your life by, as they're pretty quiet "religious" lifestyles. don't take anything, push anything, harm anything, and you're good. tell me what good christianity's done in those terms?
