That border spans about 900 miles. At Dandong, the two countries are separated by the Yalu river, not even a hundred feet wide. It is quite fascinating. I am a geographer by training, and the idea of borders has always fascinated me, especially the borders between China and its many neighbours. The border with North Korea seemed relatively porous and when I was there several years ago, people and goods appeared to move between the two countries very freely despite the stretches of barbed wires and concrete blocks erected by the Chinese in many areas of the river. Shenyang, the capital of the Liaoning Province, like many other smaller cities and villages in that province, has a very large Koren population. I wonder how many people will attempt to cross the Yalu river in the next weeks and months since the UN resolution against N. Korea. Probably by the tens of thousands, if not more.

the province's eastern edge borders north Korea- loaning province - Dantong , set on the river that divides the two countries, not only has a tourist industry based on glimpsing the border , but also offers a mix of chinese and korean culture. just outside of dandong is the easternmost stretch of the Great wall.

dandong lies at the border of liaoning and north korea and its tourist industry thrives on the views of north korea across yalu river.
