I assume you are referring to the Great Pyrenees? I know that these dogs have working bloodlines. They are still kept to guard livestock in many parts of the world. Even here in the U.S., half the breeders you find will have their dogs outside full-time guarding sheep or goats.
I have an Anatolian Shepherd Dog. The temperament is similar to that of a Great Pyrenees. He is very sweet and loving, but would attack any animal or stranger that tried to harm the dairy goats he guards. Because of the instinct to guard, many of these breeds are not suitable house pets. It depends on the breeder. You should know if the breeder keeps his/her dogs for guarding livestock or breeds carefully for pet temperament.
I wouldn't have a Great Pyrenees as a pet because they are very large and shed A LOT.
I've included some general breed links.

These dogs are beautiful, smart, good guard dogs, however, they should not be owned by first time dog owners. They can also be stubborn, try to be dominant, are usually not dog friendly, although often like other animals like cats. They love kids, provided they're raised with kids from puppies. The breed is prone to hip dysplasia so you need to make sure you always buy from a reputable breeder who has their breeding stock OFA certified. They also tend to bark a lot and some of them do drool.

The American Kennel Club is the most trusted site! Visit http://www.akc.org to view breeds information. you could try a yahoo or google search, but the AKC info would be the best source.
here is the exact link to the akc breed you are looking for. http://www.akc.org/breeds/great_pyrenees/index.cfm

i"ve heard they are very loyal to their family but wary of strangers and should be socialized with people at a very young age.
