So they mow us down on the pavements (sidewalks), jump red lights and ride in the dark without lights. Do we love them or hate them???

I generally tend to like the cyclists when they have just bounced off the side of my Land Rover Defender and hit a wall or a lamp-post.

The rest of the time i despise them.

It isn't cyclists who are the problem, it is the lack of infrastructure in this country. In The Netherlands there are separate cycle lanes/roads away from the main motor traffic. Here we have to use the ordinary roads which are often not wide enough.

I do agree that cyclists should not jump red lights or ride in the dark without lights and those that do should be prosecuted the same as a car driver doing the same would be.

On some occasions I have been known to ride on the pavement if it is unsafe to be on the road, but only in areas where pedestrians never use the pavements.

So I guess in answer to your question, yes I hate the cyclists who behave in the way you describe, but not all of us behave like that. I enjoy cycling as a cheap, eco-friendly, exercise and wish that it was a safer way to travel in this country.

Isn't it cars that hog the roads? Look at the levels of congestion in London before and after the congestion charge. More cars = more congestion, i.e. cars hog and clog the roads, not cyclists.

You shouldn't assume all cyclists ride as though they are above the law. There are lots of cyclists who ride perfectly reasonably, much more reasonably than people drive cars.

I bet that half the people here who are complaining that cyclists break road laws are guilty of driving over the speed limit, undertaking on a motorway, driving on curbs to park, stopping in bus stations to allow people to get in or out of the car etc.

It's easy to find fault with others, but not so easy to admit your own.

In certain parts of America they, along with motorcyclists (in particular) are called DONERS!!!! I once heard of a case in California where somebody was waiting for an organ transplant, but the organ she needed wasn't available. The surgeon stated after telling her this; "but its raining so it shouldn't be long!!!". I thought this had to be a joke for years, but after hearing 11 people tell me this is a real situation I still think its a joke, but shows how people on any sort of bike are seen!!!

I hate them . They hog the roads by riding in bunches and they squeeze down the sides of our cars whilst we are waiting at traffic lights. They don't have any insurance so if they run into you or damage your car you have no one to claim off and have to pay for the repairs yourself. They are a menace on the roads (UK) I even saw them racing down the A1 which is a very dangerous road ! Morons.
