The rank of generals is:

Brigadier General
Major General
Lt. General
General General

The way to remember it (first letter of each rank): Be My Little General.

Now, just so you know, neither the President (as such), nor the Commander in Chief), is NOT a rank in the Army. It is the civilian commander to whom all of the branches are subservient. However, the President is NOT a member of the United States Army, nor of any of the other branches.

I would say five-star general, though there have not been any for awhile. Like the British rank of field marshal, of which there are only a few left and no more will be created, and the French marshal, of which there may be none left, the fifth star is only granted in special cases.

Is this a trick question, my son? The highest rank in the US Army is a four star general, I do not think that the Army or any military in the US has a five star general or admiral at the present time.
