You could look into the efficiency and effectiveness of your local recycling facilities. Many municipalities collect recyclables, only to not find a market to which to sell the material. In the end, many places landfill these materials. So, now, they've actually wasted more energy collecting, sorting, and hauling these recyclables, just to put them in the landfill anyway. Efficient and effective recycling programs are achievable and beneficial, just not always utilized properly.
