I usually do, but right now I don't have the extra room and after my house gets built, I will stock up well...

Here in Calif. the land of the Quakes, I do not really store but have a pantry full of needs that get cycled through maybe every 6 months or so. The freezers the same, along with the gas for the generator also. Once in a while maybe every 9 months we go through everything and weed out the stuff we really don't need. We could survive for about three months on what we have. One other thing off topic but sort of on is stashing 1 dollar bills, power goes out, you need something, who's going to give ya change for a 20

I live in Cali, but don't stock up for a quake. I buy non-perishables on sale because I can. I hate running out when a moment of inspiration or a craving hits. I'm pretty sure we could live for a month on what we have here.
As for the flour and sugar, I got containers from Wal-Mart to keep them sealed from bugs.

My folks stocked food... now I stock food.
Guess it's from living in California (earthquake-country) and from going through a typhoon in Japan. I also lived aboard a sailboat for several years. Mostly canned and dry goods, though also some meats in the freezer. I rotate my stores every 6 months or so... thank goodness for computers, databases, and labelers.
I figure I have laid in a months worth of food. Canned soup, tuna, chili, veggies, fruit. Top Ramen, 20 pounds of dried beans, (spare) 10 pound bags of rice, flour, corn meal, onions, garlic, and potatos. I buy my meat/poultry in bulk and wrap and freeze it in small portions for myself. I also have doubles on almost all my spices and dry herbs...
And of course, the most important... 50 gallons of water, a few cases of fruit juice, 20 bottles of wine, and my liquor cabinet !!

I think it's a very good idea to keep on hand at least a week or two supply of canned and dry goods, as well as drinking water. I am very suspicious of our government pulling something really nasty on us, then declaring a state of emergency and martial law. If, or when this happens, it could be a week or two before any semblance of a food and water rationing program can be put into operation.

I would love to but don't have the funds right now. Non perishable items are the best. Pastas, rice, beans, canned goods. Stuff like that. Be careful stocking things like sugar, flour and stuff like that because it may get weevels or bugs.
