This is what you need to remember. When it tells you the alcohol percentage on the bottle, some will tell you the proof. The proof is double the alcohol percentage. So if it's 9.5, then it would be like 20 proof. 20 proof is pretty low. Everyone's body takes a different effect to alcohol. Some people it can take them 1 drink or 10 drinks.. But flavored beers and reg beer like Smirnoff, Bud,wine, champagne, wine coolers have a low percentage. Now actual liquor, that is where you get drunk fast. Cheap liquor will get you drunk quick but you will have a bad hangover. For examples, Rum (80-151 proof), Whiskey, Scotch have high proofs... Tequila will get you going real quick with a few shots.... I don't know if you're trying to prevent yourself from getting too drunk or if that's your goal but all you gotta do is look at the percentage, and or the proof and that will tell you.

this person isnt necessarily talking about wine. beer can get to 13% before it is termed barley wine. interestingly enough, one cannot make more than 25% ABV by fermenting alone. you would need a distiller to continue further.
Great Divide Brewing's Hercules Double I.P.A. is 9.5% and is the drink of the gods.
9.5 ABV will get you at least a thick buzz. unless your name is ernest hemingway. or vincent van gogh.

If you drink enough of it.....It is more than a beer...usually 3-6% but less than Wild Turkey which is 50%.
