Talk to an addiction doc. Most likely the doctor prescribing the methadone can either get you off of it or refer you to someone who can. There are medications such as Suboxone that can help get you off gently.
Don't try to do this yourself. Managing your own opiates is what got you in the grips of addiction.

You are replacing one addictive drug with another one. Yes, the 50mg Fentanyl Duragesic patch will help keep you out of the fires of hell (so you feel), and a 50mg patch should do it , if you were only on 40mg meth. May I suggest after two weeks you adjust the 50 mg. to 25mg Duragesic Fentanyl because it is Morphine after all, and that is an opiate-and meth is an opiate. So what I'm trying to do is think of the best, and as least painful suggestions for you. Oh, yes almost forgot, the sore legs are from meth discontinuation. Can you not get medical professional help? Or there's a dude named Frank who is confidential, does what he does for charity and if 100% CONFIDENTIAL, down to earth, and HE is the man who will help you the best. He has been there, done that, and is there for people like you too. I don't know where you live, but open your local phone book and in the beginning where they have all the help lines (like:spouse abuse, child abuse, animal abuse, suicidal thoughts, etc.) and you will see under drug abuse this guy's number (I'll look it up)
Freephone 0800 77 66 00-"FRANK"
available for you 24 hrs. a day
*Information about drugs and solvents for those who use them, their friends, families, and colleagues.
What's the worst that could happen?-
Calling will enable you to have suggestions that will help you to your benefit and figure out the best and painless help.

I cant tell from your question, but i seriously doubt your body was detoxing from just forty mg of methadone. you have to take methadone for several weeks in fairly large doses and then stop abrubtly before you can detox or have the feelings of detoxing. take off the patch, you dont need it. If in fact you had been taking it for a long while, try nyquil, regular dose at night, it will help you sleep, take off the edge, take care of the painful joints and that is all you need is sleep to get it all out of your system, if you have been taking a lot, for a long time, I would certainly contact your pain management dr. and ask for colonopin, it really helps with the symptoms.
