Why do you call private school, "PUBLIC SCHOOL"????

Because those were the schools that were originally grammar schools open to all members of the public who could pay for it, after that the state schools opened, but the name 'public' school still applied to the now 'private schools'. Get it?

a private school that is directly by members of the public is refferd to as a public school, as opposed to the funding via goverment of the state system.
