I'll tell you a really odd thing. I have been a self-righteous non-smoker for 30 years. But lately, when I go to a meeting, or conference I tend to go outside with the smokers, because they are usually more interesting to me. I'm going to be really pleased about being able to go into a pub and actually enjoy myself, but I may actually be joining the smokers outside! At least there is plenty of air to mix with the tobacco.

I've also read that in countries where this prohibition is already in force, that going outside for a smoke is the best place to chat someone up.

I do hope, though, that you smokers will come back inside to hear me sing.

As a non-smoker I think it is great they are bringing this in. However having spent the last year in Ireland where you cant smoke inside I have to say alot of the smokers also seem to enjoy the rule. When outside they all tend to stand having a conversation and many have agreed with me that it is much nicer sitting in a non-smokey environment. I do think a covered area should be provided as it is not very fair sending smokers outside when it is raining.

It's sad they have done this; their only real argument was the health of the bar staff, which in itself is ridiculous, why we should be held responsible for their health when they cannot be responsible for themselves I'll never know. I'm waiting for the day when people are banned from spraying body spray, just as harmful as passive smoking in an enclosed space.

I'll, or we'll, simply smoke outside as we have no other choice. I would hope that the idea of banning smoking in groups outdoors will not go ahead, but unfortunately society is becoming more and more anti-smoking so it may well go ahead – because heavens forbid anyone actually tries to help smokers quit, instead we get victimised.

went to southern Ireland and all smokers smoked 10 meters away from the pub door, as a non-smoker I enjoyed my evening a lot better, my hotel room smelt nice and clean, and you see all those who smoke dripping wet, shivering in the rain and cold while I was in the lovely warm pub.

It was on the news recently that smokers will be moved on if they gather outside pubs coz they can cause an obstruction!
