How many kinds of Muslims are there and why do they not get along with each other?

Fair enough Billie. I took it for granted that most people understood Christianity bashed each other on a daily basis, but I thought as long as you were Muslim you were supposed to be "in the club" so to speak.

Where is the largest density of Muslims located and how many do you think are in the US?

The 2 main divisions in Islam are the Sunnis and the Shi'ites. There are various types of Shi'ites, such as the "twelver" and the "sevener" etc.

The main hostility seems to occur between Shi'ites and Sunni's and I believe that these are mostly political in nature.

There are a lot of political issues in the parts of the world where there happen to be many Muslims. So it may be more political than religious. It is hard to say. The religious differences do strengthen the divide however.

The Qur'an specifically asks that its followers not divide themselves into sects. It is ashame that this has happened.

there is but one Islam.the Islam taught by the prophet of Islam.the differences are many.coming from a Muslim who's not afraid to tell the truth.i can tell you that to the orthodox Muslim, if you dont subscribe to the 5 pillars of Islam and the six pillars of faith then you are no Muslim.and a hijab does not a Muslim make.nor does the name Muhammad suffice you to be Muslim.it is not a birthright.and hence many people who believe they are Muslim but dont practice a lick of it are constantly at odds with those who do.then there is the followers of the [sunnah] and the followers of those who left the sunnah[shia].now for a history lesson.every so often when Islamic identity is threatened,a revival of sorts take place.like in the time of salahudeen,when he came to power alot of people in the Islamic world were killed. many wars were fought in order to weed out those who didnt conform to the orthodox teachings of Islam.you are witnessing such a battle today in Afghanistan, Iraq,Pakistan and to some extent Saudi Arabia.as far as getting along with the rest of the world.Islam was not sent so that all and sundry can sit around the campfire and sing kumbayya[is that how you spell that?]it was sent to dominate all other ways of life no matter how much the disbelievers hate it. and if everyone wants peace why is it so hard to achieve?so in short there will be no peace because its your peace that's sought.not the Muslims.we have known nothing but war since the west has gained dominance.the winds of change have already begun to blow...can you feel it?

there are two kinds of muslims which were mentioned previously: sunni's and shiea's. sunni's follow mohamed and shiea's follow Ali. however all muslims believe that Mohamed and Ali existed.

why the don't get along is a very good question, its because there are people who cause problems between them, just like in some countries muslims and christians don't get along......like i said it before and i'll say it again, there are people who just keep talking crap and saying sunni's said that about you, and sheia's said this about you. Where i used to live, muslims both sunni and shiea and christians as well use to live together in one building or appartments, but now, its impossible.

There are hundreds of kinds of muslims, and it's simply because some groups believe certain things, and the other groups believe in other things. Islam's religion is a beautiful religion if you follow it the right way. All these "terrorists" "suicide bombers" and such that you see are just stupid people. The true followers of islam are normal kind human beings. Many people believe that everyone that follows islam is bad due to the bombings and such. Their are goods and bad people in every religion. Islam is the fastest growing religion currently, and more people are converting to it everyday.

There are 2 kinds of Muslims - Those that practice extremism and murder people in the lie that they do so in the name of Islam

And then there are REAL Muslims that practice TRUE ISLAM, peaceful and God-fearing. We are the majority, unfortunately peaceful does not gain that much airtime and publicity.

There are just a few kinds of Muslims, and they don't get along because:
a.) Power struggles,
b.) Being too closeminded and not accepting that other people have different ideas and customs than them, and/or
c.) Religious purposes (More muslims vs everyone else than musilm vs muslim.)
