I am going to a Halloween party tonight and my costume is a Leprechaun. I want to temporarily dye my hair green, and my mom said food coloring works. I am still nervous about it coming out of my hair as my mom has never tried it. Does anyone know anything about this?

My mom doesn't want to buy a hair dye, unfortunately. But after hearing all the mixed comments, I'm going to try to convince her!

I am not stupid, so don't post rude comments! I realize it says FOOD coloring, but clear nail poslish is meant for fingernails, yet it can be used for fixing rips in nylons. Things have multiple uses.

Unfortunately, I go to a charter school that is insanely strict, so I can NOT go to school with green hair!

I am not quite sure if it will come out of your hair right away, it seems like it would. I would try it on a small peice of hair that is towards the bottom of your hair and not easily seen first and then if it comes out easily you can use it on the rest of your hair. If it doesn't come out right away i'm pretty sure it will wear off.

Food coloring is safe. It will probably take about a week to wash out. I was BOZO the CLOWN one year and I had a perm and the color stayed in my hair for about a week. I wasn't the only one in school with color in their hair. There was alot of kids so if you are only going to school or college than that is not so bad.

Before you know it your hair will be back to normal.

(give it a week or 2)

Food coloring is safe, but it will take a long time, if ever, to wash out of your hair. Pick yourself up and visit your nearest drug store, costmetic aisle, look for temporary hair sprays.

yea food coloring is meant for food, hence food coloring not hair coloring. Go to a costume shop they should have temporary hair dye that washes out easily after a shower.

I've dyed my hair with al those things you said. I learned the hard way that food coloring DOES stain your head and the roots of your hair become very thin and pliable because of the chemicals that interfere with your nature hair oil. Please don't ruin your hair :) try a spray you can buy for one dollar at the dollar store orWalmart :) those are washable and not as damaging as food coloring.

Exactly why is everyone with blond, why aren't you just have jet black hair with some blonde or blonde hair with some jet black hair. Right now you don't have to choose.

koolaid is much better...they'll both wash out, but koolaid is so much brighter. mix it with hair gel if you're going for a spikey look. oh yeah, wear rubber gloves too or you'll have colored fingers. hope you have a great time.
