It really depends on the dog. For example, a lot of people give out mutts for free. And shelters sometimes give puppies for just a small donation. But purebreds can cost thousands, and some shelters are a bit more costly than others.

Depends on where you live, what kind of dog you want, do you want a registered dog, does it have to be a purebred. So many things go into determining how much you will spend on a puppy. For a registered dog, you can expect to pay from $500 on up to the thousands.

It depends on the dog you are looking for. Most mixed breeds can be obtained free or for under a hundred dollars. I have never owned one, but from what I have heard they are fantastic dogs and well worth their weight in gold.

If you want to go for a purebred dog, however, you're looking at an average of $400-$1000 for the most common breeds of dog (Yellow Lab, Pug, Poodle, etc.) and well over that for certain, rarer varieties. (Malamute, Great Dane, Papillon etc.)

Good luck with dog ownership, and don't let the prices deter you - dogs are definately worth every penny you pay for them!

Depends on the breed, the breeder, all sorts of stuff. They are cheap if you get them from shelters. We rescued one of mine from a cardboard box, she was free. The other was a purebred, she cost us about $450. I would suggest a rescue or a shelter dog any day.

It depends on the dog. We bought my Golden Retriever when he was 4 months and he cost about $700.
