Prayer is very powerful...Don't stop either!
John 3:16-18
16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.

I honestly don't think it's silly to pray for your family every night, even if you are not sure God exists. You know your family exists! And you love them and want the best for them. So if there is any chance that God exists, then you want to pray so that your family can benefit. That is from love of your family.
Even Buddhists pray, and they do not generally believe in God. Their prayers are of a different nature than a Christian prayer would be. They are more like sending out good thoughts to everyone.
And just thinking good thoughts about your family is a good practice. It may make you kinder towards them.
I do believe in God, but I'm a Hindu not a Christian. I just feel that God exists.
P. S. Yep, that's one dumb avatar! ;-)

HAY Charlene, I’m Arlene
I’m a Believer. I say that because I tried being a Christian once, and I found out I was wrong, so I am a believer now.
I had a personal encounter with the Spirit of God.
I was drinking wine, smoking dope, and living with a man who wasn’t my husband, but was rich,
I could not remember the Fathers Prayer, I said it every night before going to sleep.
I got stuck on My Father which is in heaven,
Over and over again,
Well all of a sudden, I could not move, think, all I could do is hear my heart beat, and breath.
I heard, "I spoke you into creation, I can speak you out of it">
I heard, "Repent, and know I am God".
My body Charlene was going out the floor, in spirit.
I could feel heat, an my fingers burned, an my eyes.
I could hear the voice saying " I died for your soul, repent".
So I did it I said "Forgive me for my sin, come into my heart".
I heard the voice say, "what would it profit a man if he should gain the whole world and lose his soul"?
I could not move, I was paralyzed from this power, I could feel love, peace, joy, and understanding coming into me.
When this experance quit, I was changed, from bad, to good.
I could say, I met the maker of all creation that night.
He still talks to me,
He just told me to tell you,
He died for you too, because he loves you, you exist, because of him. Charlene

I'm curious why you pray if you're not sure God exists. Are you praying "just in case" He really exists? If so, you're praying out of unbelief, which won't really do much good. If you're praying because you're trying to get closer to God, that's great; but I would suggest that you pray for God to help you with your unbelief. God promises us in the Bible that He will draw close to us if we draw close to Him.
As a Christian, I believe in God because I've seen His unmistakable works all around me; I've seen several miracles in my life and the lives of my family; and He's spoken directly to me. However, He didn't speak to me until I was already sure He existed; so it's kind of a "Catch-22," if you know what I mean.
Peace.

God, why do people believe in God? People have faith in God, faith my friend is not being able to see what you believe in but always knowing that it is there, God is something that people put their faith into, for after people die, they do not cease to exist, their spirits are either sent to heaven to live in the king's kingdom, or cast down to the pits of hell for not being a good person. There are so many mysteries to the earth, sometimes I even ponder what I really believe, but after pondering several times, I've found that God is really real, think of all the times that something good has happened to you! Something so unbelievably good, that you didn't think it was even possible, that was God my friend, he helps you through every step of your life whether you know it or not!

i believe in God for many reasons but the main reason is that Jesus' resurection is fact.
doubting God?
that's natural
if you dont want to stop believing in God, read the bible, attend mass, do penance, keep the faith you have alive
and don't stop praying
i'm no expert so i'm not going to pretend i am
i am just gonna share with you something i read once on the internet
"I'd rather live as if there is a God and die to find out there isn't, than to live as if there isn't a God and die and find out there is."

Why would you pray if there is no God? I believe in God because the creation tells that there is a God. Psalms 19: 1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. I believe in God because His Spirit bears witness with my spirit. Romans 8: 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: I believe in God because His Word tell me that the Lord Jesus Christ died for my sin and that He was buried and took my sins away and He rose again the third day for my justification. Believe and truth in that and you too can have eternal life. 1 Corinthians 15: 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 1 Corinthians 15: 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:1 Corinthians 15: 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: Romans 4: 25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

I believe that there is a God, I also believe that when you die you die. What I believe is that when the world ends God will come back and everyone who has died will be judged. That's when hell will happen and that's when our heaven will start.
If you think about how just would God be to make a soul burn for all of eternity? That's inconcievable to me. You will burn for as long as your sins take you. Is it fair that a soul would have to burn for longer because they died sooner?
Same thing for heaven though. Is it fair that a soul be in heaven for longer because they died first? I almost think that would start another war in heaven, and I think God would be smarter than to have that happen again.
I believe God has all of us here for a reason... if there was no God than what is the point of us being here?

I believe in God because that was the way I was brought up. Today I understand why. We are here for a reason, there is something more than living on this Earth.

Because the Bible tells me God does exist and that he loves me. It also tells me that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and that the penalty of sin is death and hell, and seperation from God. But John 3:16 says that "God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
Christ died on the cross to pay the penalty for the sins of mankind. If each of us will recieve his forgiveness, our sins are washed away, and we are given a new life in Jesus Christ who makes us a friend of God. What each of us must do is confess to god that we have sinned and ask Jesus Christ to forgive us our sins and be our savior.
You can do this today. I pray you will.
to be encouraged listen to ttb.org. I get encouragement from it.
