Hi, I had the same problem with my 2 dogs and fleas, they just kept comming back and the vets treatments wernt working, then someone suggested giving them half a garlic tablet each everyday as fleas do not like garlic so they will not bite the skin and will not jump onto the dog if they can smell the garlic through the skin. I give my dogs half a garlic tablet every few days now as the fleas are gone and I just want to keep them away. My dogs are small so they only get half but for bigger dogs you could give them a whole one.Dont worry... the bonus is the garlic smell is too weak for human noses to pick up! Well I've never noticed it anyway! Hope this helps! Lou.x

For flea prevention I like to do the combination approach:
1)Setinel (Heartworm, other intestinal parasites, and flea control-flea growth regulator) which is an oral tablet given once a month
2)Frontline or Advantage both are good topical solutions (put between your pet's shoulder blades)
Frontline just seems to last longer on a dogs that are bathed more regularly, you should apply it 2 days after or before a bath and retreat with it every 3-4 weeks. It can help with ticks as well.
Advantage will only get the flea problem. Applied every 3-4 weeks as well.
Just chose one of these two Frontline or Advantage not both.
3. You may want to have a professional exterminator to bomb your house and treat the yard to help limit the flea population your dog is exposed to; if this is too expensive of an option launder all sheets/bedding the pet gets on or rubs, vacuum daily or every other day for at least two weeks post flea treatment this time.
By the way flea preventative bought at the grocery store or petco don't work, neither do the collars bought there, and hartz products have caused serious health issues and even death. No flea shampoo is going to prevent the problem they merely get rid of the current flea population. After a flea bath it is always a good idea to brush your pet with a flea comb for several days afterward.
Good luck!

Not enough info really !!!! You don't say if you also have a cat, large open garden etc. The cat might re- infect the dog, and foxes using your garden may leave infected fur on your grass. I find Frontline the most effective treatment, but also the most expensive. this is only available from your vet. I give my dog a daily garlic tab to make his skin (so I was told) unpalatable to the flees. We have been clear of fleas since the early summer now. Wash bedding regularly and do not forget to treat other pets too. Good Luck.

lilypie99 is right. You can't just treat the house and dog(s). The fleas are coming in from outside. And your dog(s) will continue to bring them in if you don't treat. Spray your yard well. They will not only use the dogs for warmth but also as a vehicle to get into your house. And they will also use you! Don't forget to treat your dog(s) bedding. If it can't be throroughly treated or washed, throw it out. Continue w/the flea treatment from the vet. None of the treatments will work if your outdoors is infested. You're on the right track. You just didn't go far enough. Good luck!

This is going to sound strange but I promise it truely works. Take a piece of raw garlic cut into bite size ( for your dog ) and give as you would a pill. Then take the rest of the garlic and pound it until it is broken up alittle, then rub it all over doggies coat. It smells like an Itallian dinner but it will keep the fleas away. For some reason they hate garlic. This is the only thing I will use on my dog. Do this once aweek during flea season.

Hiya Susan
Have you tyred one spot, if you have and as you have said that you have done you house with spray. The only thing that i can think of is that your missing some where in the house, and the flea's are still getting to your dog. Try some where you you have not done, it could be the dogs blanket, basket, bedding and just give them all a good going over. I know its a pest doing all this but you have to find them for the sake of your poor dog and you to Susan. I wish you luck and hope you find them soon

ok, here's how to do it the right way.

use Frontline on your pet.

get one of the yard sprays from your vet, or petsmart. use according to directions.

now, for your house, Fleabusters is the best thing on the market. it is not a dangerous pesticide like most other flea killers. Fleabusters contains Borax which dissolve the fleas shell, thus killing it. it also kills the eggs. once you apply it to your carpet, then you can vaccum it. it will take about 2 weeks to kill all the fleas and the eggs, but once it kills them, it will last for at least one year. i have used it once in three years and still have no fleas.

keep using the frontline on your dogs, and spray your yard maybe once a year.

fleas are definately a problem especially in the warmer climates like georgia, where we live.

good luck to you and your pets.

We use Advantage on the dogs and I do they carpets once a month. I bought some stuff you sprinkle down, wait a half hour, and then vacuum it up. Some else said they are especially bad in the south, I agree with that 100% (we live on the Texas coast.. If you live in an apt. it is bad too, if one unit gets fleas, everyone gets fleas.

A lot of the answers are good ones, I used Neem shampoo which is a natural repellant. Some specialty pet shops sell it or you can find it on ebay.

Neem oil is used widely in India and Africa as an anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, antiseptic, and anti-parasitic agent in toiletries, soap, toothpaste and skin/hair care products.

Neem oil soaps to kill and repel fleas and to treat hot spots.

You have to continue treatment for a while after they're gone, because most products only kill adult fleas. If you kill the next generation before they can lay eggs, the fleas should disappear for good.
