I am looking for information such as who lived there before my family and what was in the location before my home was built? I have been told there are "spirits" or "ghosts" on my land and not to sound silly but if you ever watch Silvia Brown on the Montel show, she says to look into what was on your land before your home was there and who lived there, so that is what I am trying to do but I can't find out how to obtain the information I am looking for. Does anyone know where or how I can get this information?

It was the house I grew up in and my mom still lives there, however I now live over 1,000 miles away so I can't go to any county building for answers. I'm hoping there is something online.

Not sure about online, but check in your local phone book for an "Abstract". There is one in my town and they keep records on houses like who lived there and what has been done to it. You should check it out.

That depends on where you live. In NYC there is a database that can be accessed from home with some of the information. However, most places you need to look at the county clerk's Land Records. You need the block number and the lot number in NYC.

Some places they will do the look-up for you if they are not too busy.

Another way is check the census for your area. However, you need to have an idea what the Election District, Administration District, Township, Diocese, or other division for your area.

If you find your land was built on an old cemetery from an old map, you may want to call in an holy person to settle the spirits so you can safely live with them. (Also do not see "Pet Cemetery" or "The Amityville Horror ")

If you are a member of one of the Native Nations ei. American Indians, Australian Aborigines or other) you need to deal with this problem within the rules of your tradition. You may need to move.

I am aware this site is international.

Good luck.

You may not find it online but go to your county/city clerks office and find out your parcel # , plat #, or deed based on your address. You can then look up the history of your piece of land, like sales, transfers and dates etc based on recorded deeds.

Go to a real estate broker in your city and ask them where you can look for the information.
