I live in southern CA and my apt has lots of fruit flies. There seems to be nothing I can do about it. My kitty loves to play with them but I just saw him actually eat one! I'm afraid this will cause tapeworm. He had it once before and the vet said it was caused by eating a flea.

Could the same thing happen from eating fruit flies or other bugs?

Fruit flies don't normally harbor tapeworms like fleas, but you should probably talk with your veterinarian about regularly deworming your bug eating feline. Good luck!

Cats eat alot of bugs. It's a snak. The fleas carry tapeworm eggs but the little fruitflies are harmless. My cat eats spiders.

Don't worry your kitty will be fine !
My cats do that all the time. and they have eaten a lot worse than fruit flys ! And don't stress about worms once they eat the bug its dead !
they can only lay eggs when they are alive, then the eggs turn into worms.

Good luck with your frisky Kitty !

There should be nothing wrong with your kitty eating a fruit fly. Taperworms are caused by eating fleas and eating fleas only.
