The wraps are to protect your hands. Make sure you wrap your hands correctly. They fuse your hand and wrist together as one unit. You use the wraps with your bag gloves when you work the heavybag(I keep my hands wrapped and gloved when working on the double end bag too, just my preference). There are many boxing websites let your fingers do the walking and do a yahoo search. Raged - I use no handwraps when I work the speed bag, just personal preference I actually "feel" the bag better and I'm able to work it faster. I plan my workout so that I do my speed bag work at the tail end of my workout, just prior to my jump rope session( that way I'm not having to re wrap my hands). I have never injured my hand due to impacting the speed bag. Although I don't use them you can use them while doing speed bag work. Some people also use their bag gloves on the speed bag, but I was never able to get my rhythm and tempo down with gloves or wraps on my hands. Raged - speed bag work is fun and great for developing your shoulder and trap muscles, also your timing and hand eye coordination.

Wraps are to protect your hands from getting hurt. You should always wrap your hands before starting a workout. Wraps are all that's needed to protect your hands while working on the speed bag. If you are hitting the heavy bag then you also need bag mitts (these are lightweight gloves).
