Your cat hears you just fine. Just doesn't care much about what you are saying as most humans think the most ridiculous stuff is earth shaking. They play dumb at the worst times. My house is pretty much set up so they can't do much harm to themselves or the house. I'ld rather have healthy happy cats that than expensive upholstery or breakable knicknacks. You and they are better off if you accept that you need to do the listening.

He is listening to you. It's just that most of the time he doesn't feel inclined to take any of your suggestions. He's thinking about it and will get back to you on some of the better ones.
I have pretty much stopped giving orders to cats except for the kind like "come in here and eat your dinner"
[A cat] will consent to be your friend if you are worthy of the honor, but it will not be your slave."

I'm not sure what you mean by "listen"? Are you trying to teach your cat to behave? Is it doing something you don't want it to?

Cats are very independent and you can't train them like you can a dog. That doesn't mean they aren't smart or that you can't work with them to change their behavior.

If your cat is doing something you don't like you can always spray him with water from a misting bottle. That usually helps.

You didn't give enough information to really figure out what you meant, sorry.

Don't give up on your cat, good luck.

Yes you can!!!! cats know when you are talking to them. try this every day, get something they likes to eat!! like Whisker Lickin's try the tuna flavor, take to your cat by saying something like do you want some thing to snack on, then put some of the food down for the cat. do this 3 or 4 times a day.the cat will get use to what you are saying and will know what you are saying. and when it's time for you to eat you then tell the cat come on lets eat. some cat will understand it when you keep on talking to them my cat knows all about this, try it okay

My cats come when I call them. You really have to bond with them. Also squint your eyes at them and see if they squint back at you. That means they trust you if they do it back. I have 5 cats and they are all outdoor and they always stick around the house. Just make sure to give them extra love and repeat things you say over and over so they understand. Wouldnt hurt to also give them treats every now and then and new toys. Remember just because your cat is grown up doesnt mean he doesnt like to play! Hope this helps!

Our cat is 8 years old. I have only lived with him for the past year but he definately knows words. You say the word EAT he perks up and comes to you...he knows OUT....he knows his name...and I am amost positive he knows I LOVE YOU. Cause when I say it he nudges me back with his head. He knows HEY and GET DOWN...because he jumps down when we say it.

The more you say the words and do a motion with it, the more likely they will listen. Repeat repeat repeat.... treats help too but dont over do it.
