i had unprotected sex 6 years ago and never got tested. i did not have any protected or unprotected sex since then. i went to labcorp and got an elissa hiv test and it came back non reacitive hiv 1 and novreactive hiv 2 . this is 5 years after the incident. NOw my tongue is a bit white. i wen to 4 doctors who all gave me different diagnoses. one said it was acid reflux, one said maybe dehydration due to fasting long hours without water, one said thrush and one said it was a from taking antibiotics. i took penicilin, bioxin, and amoxicllin for a span of 1 month after not taking any anitbiotics for 4 years. but it has been 1 month since then. are hiv test accurate after 4 years, and is my anxiety causing me to have dry mouth or what. I am taking nyastatin for 4 days now with a bit of improvment but not much, i am also cleaning my tongue 5 times a day with a tongue scraper. can someone give me some good advice for my situation.

If you were infected with the HIV virus you would definitely trigger a test after 4 years. If you haven't had any sex from the time of unprotected sex to the time you were tested, rest assured you do not have HIV. As for your tongue, without examining you, I'd tend to go with the doctor who diagnosed thrush. After all the antibiotics you took, you could have a very resistant case. Keep going with the Nystatin swish and swallows. I also wonder if you use any medications for asthma, such as Advair, or Spiriva. If you do, and aren't rinsing and spitting afterward, you may be reinfecting yourself.

First, having thrush does not necessarily mean you are infected with HIV. However, I would continue to get tested at least once more. If you have taken that many antibiotics, then it's no wonder you have thrush. Thrush is yeast. You most likely have a systemic yeast infection (throughout your body). Antibiotics cause this because it wipes out all the good bacteria in your body that keeps yeast under control. When the good bacteria is killed off by the antibiotics, yeast thrives. Nystatin won't touch it, scrape your tongue til it bleeds and it will do no good. The problem is not on your tongue, it is throughout your body. You must purge your body from all the yeast and replace the normal bacteria that was lost. A Dr. can give you 2 pills to be taken one a week x 2 weeks and is called Diflucan. Or, go to a health supplement store and ask for a probiotic called Pau d' Arco. It helps to restore an normal immune system. You can take it forever to keep your system in balance. Then also take acidopholus capsules to replace the bacteria. Also, ask your pharmicist about a medication called Flora Q. Most pharmacies do not carry this, but can order it. It restores the normal bacterial flora in the gut. Once you do all these things, the thrush will disappear, if it is thrush, and your body will be much healthier.

Hi,the incident happened about 6 years ago if you where to have HIV, some kind of reactive result would show by now, i know that your still kind of worried about it, but just go and get another test done ,, if the result still comes out non reactive you shouldn't worry about it any more,, my advise to you would be ,, to go and get a complete testing done to make sure that everything is OK, ,,then when you get back the results and they come back OK then ,, that would be great and at the same time you can live at peace with yourself,,, i hope that everything goes well for you ..
about the your tough if you scrape it to much and you can get an infection,,, they do sell over the counter medication for that that can clear it up fast, antibiotic's will kill the good bacteria it your body to fight of certain infections ,,, that is why you might have thrush ,,, don't worry to much about that ,,, i am sorry that your depressed but i am sure when every everything comes back OK ,, that will be such a big relive for you ,, just take things a day at a time ,, just relax a little,,,
good luck

I had 2 people come in yesterday for a spaeker presentation and they say that if you get thrush it's because your body is trying to fight off infections but it anti-bodies are not strong enough. If you di indeed had Hiv so you can be more susceptible to other things including thrush, shingles and etc. I dont mean to scare you but maybe try going to a place that specializes in that area so thye would know for sure. Thrush also can come from Breast milk or a baby that has it.
