When the Isrealis sent women into combat years ago, they found out that the medics spent more time trying to save women that were already dead than on men who were not as bad, but ended up dying because help wasn't sent to them in a timely manner. Men are going to go to women's aid. A few decades of the women's lib movement isn't going to erase thousands of years of social ingraining in a man's brain.

If they can do it and keep up with the men absolutely.
I was in the military in an infantry unit for three years and there were a few women there. Some were just as competent and fit as a lot of the guys, others certainly were not.
The problem is, here in Canada at least, fitness requirements are relaxed for females. While in a majority of cases females are unable to match males when it comes to physical performance, I don't think that is a justification for allowing lower standards in all circumstances.
I feel if a woman want to serve in a combat arms unit, she should be held to the exact same standard as the men. Contrary to what was said above, physical ability certainly does make a massive difference when it comes to modern combat just as much as it ever did. But with that in place, I see no other good reason for prohibiting women from combat units.

Woman are already engaged in ground combat on a routine basis. For example, Woman make up about a 1/3 of the USA Military Police Corps, which is on the forefront of combat in both Afghanistan and Iraq.
Some persons say that females should be exclude from ground combat for various reason, but from my personal experience, woman are very capable of fighting on today's modern battlefield.

Should women be assigned infantry MOS'? No. There are sound physical reasons why not.
(anyone who disagrees is invited to stop by Quantico and run the Quigley).
But the idea of shielding female personnel from ground combat has become a moot point. There is no longer a rear echelon and military women assigned to support duties need to be able to fight when/if they find themselves in a tactical situation.

This is the most stupid question. Modern warfare isn't like wwII. So if you are a woman and you are out of the fob and are engage you shouldn't engage because of your gender? Eff that!!
I don't care what you are, if you signed up, qualified on your weapon system, trained like everyone else you could do anything required of a soldier. Gender isn't an issue in this confusing war. We need more soldiers now than ever.
That's like asking back in the early 1900 do you think that women should engage in voting????
Come on, what do we need another amendment...?

Being a woman or man isn't really much difference when arms are involved. There is a psychological difference when one does have to interact with the populace though.
The best combat does not involved actual shooting.

they dont belong in combat. They are weaker than men in this respect. If you cant throw a grenade beyong its explosive radius, or pick up a fallen comrade off of the field, then I dont want you next to me in combat. Unless they are part of the "morale platoon" ;)
I remember one time at the grenade range, my female first sergeant couldnt throw the grenades beyond their blast radius, so our male CO had to hide beside the bunker and throw for her, so the grader saw a grenade fly from the bunker and thought it was hers, so she could get a "go" for that station. I lost all faith in women serving in combat that day. double standards get people killed.

Of course - why shouldn't they? There as qualified as male soldiers to fire a gun.
In any case, American women soldiers are ALREADY involved in combat in Iraq
There are an awful lot of women soldiers, marines and sailors staffing those checkpoints - somebody's got to frisk the Iraqi civilian women - many of the Humvees on convoy escort duty have women soldiers in them, many of the bomb disposal soldiers are women and there are women linguists serving as interpreters with combat units.
Congress hasn't caught up with the reality on the battlefield.
