Do you feel that loved ones stay near us and try to comfort us for a time after their death? And also how do you know when a spirit is a good spirit and not an evil one impersonating good? Do you just feel the difference? I am curious and will not mock or insult.

I welcome your question because being a Spiritualists doesn't specify a religious sect in particular and being spiritual is something we can all somehow identify with if we are soul seekers...not just book worms. Spiritualists can be believers of any denomination Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, etc...

Spiritualism is something from within, not an organization you belong to; where philosophy's and scams are sold with a price to the highest bidder. It's wrong how "Wanna-be Spiritualist" scam others out of disbelief.

Family and friends do contact us in many ways such as in dreams etc...not necessarily for comfort but other reasons.

Many times bad spirits engage by invasion upon their space. If they view you as an intruder rather than an extended family member, you can feel negative vibes. In most cases, this then would NOT be a family member.

Very seldom are family members evil with the living offspring unless they are disappointed with you spiritually or see that you are heading down a dark path.

A few of my loved ones came around to me right after their death, with a message usually. My spirit guide has been with me since I was a child and he is good just because, yes, I can feel it. He hasn't let me down in the many years he has been with me.

An example--I was reading about voodoo not long ago and so I began discussing it with my daughter. I said--Oh, maybe we should do a spell to attract money!
I felt a physical smack on my head, on the left side and a chill ran down my neck, then spine and into my leg. I heard a voice in my mind that said 'NO! Not good but dangerous and maybe evil. A clear message from my guide.

He told me to ask the doctor to run certain tests when my husband was so ill he was dying. The tests revealed the problem. My husband later asked--Who was that old man in the corner hovering behind your back while you sat by my bed? It was my spirit guide and my husband could see him as he hovered between life and death.

I do know loved ones stay near. After years of nursing and witnessing deaths, I have witnessed several events letting me know the person did not leave immediately, but stayed around for a short period. One experience was witnessing the death of a very spiritual woman who looked up and said, Christ and her husband were there to fetch her and died on the spot. Their presence was so real, you felt you could reach out and physically touch them. Her family, my coworkers and myself all felt we were standing on hallowed ground.

I have also had resecessitated patients describe in detail things which they observed (and once even done) during the period of their clinical death. Since hearing is the last thing to go, it would be one thing if some of these observations took place in the room with their body. It is another when they can tell me about things in another part of the hospital involving their loved ones during that period and the loved one can confirm the details. Whether they stay with their body or are there to provide comfort, I don't know.

I ran across a book a few years ago that seems to fit with what patients have told me over the years. It is called Return to Tomorrow.

As for my believe about recognizing evil spirits, as a Christian I do believe 1/3 of the host of heaven were kicked out with Lucifer. I think it is very reasonable that impersonation can happen. I know there are some who try to communicate with the dead, but for the most part I believe you are opening yourself to trouble and we are meant to focus on living.

If you believe the Word of God, no; the dead "know not any thing" (Ec 9:5), and, " there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom" (Ec 9:10).

It is good that you know that evil spirits can appear to be good. As for determination, two points:
1) "By their fruits you shall know them" (Mt 7:20).
2) Meditate on the example of Mary and Zacharias (Luke 1:26-38, 11-20), who did not know if the messenger was good or evil.

Last year I lost my father, I'm still coming to terms with his loss, I get comfort in thinking that his spirit is close by, I am going to tell you something I have so far only told my close family because I know you are a good person. A few days after he died I dreamt that he came back to me, I actually saw him step down from above, not from the sky just down, he called out to me and held out his hand, I was afraid to touch him but when I did his touch was warm, I still don't know what to make of this dream, but I am sure he tried to make contact, I have tears in my eyes as I type so please forgive my spelling. You are such a good person, may you always have peace.

I feel like they do. If you are open to them, you might feel them. As far as evil and good goes, I'm not a spiritualist, but when I was touring the Star of India, I was afraid to go in one of the rooms. I later found out the man who had occupied it was a very mean and evil man. I think ones instincts will usually guide you in this sort of thing.

When I had my daughter, I felt the my dad's spirit with me.
I have never ran across an evil spirit so I don't know about that.
But with my dad I felt love and comfort. My daughter when she was
about 2yrs old pointed at pic of my dad and said that he told her a story
at bedtime. She has no fear of his spirit and is now 11 .
So I guess anything is possible.
Blessed Be
Morgaine

At times, departed soul will stay around us for whatever reasons not necessary comforting us. Usually it takes a period of 7 days.

Your intuition and senses will tell you whether a good or bad spirit.

Near a good spirit, you usually feel love, bright and joy.

Near a bad spirit, you have goose pimples, anger or saddeness.

my father remained close for about 3 days after his death
i was told in a reading also that he was doing so ... before he moved on to have teachings from a guiding spirit who was with him
he has came now and again ( especially to mum ) ... so they are never truly far from us , but do have other things to do

i have never once encoutered anything but love from spirit Debra ...
and for various reasons i find it difficult to believe anything negative could come near us
i have had the occasional naughty or loud one .. but these people arent bad are they ?
i can feel the difference with each spirit , much like you can feel the difference with people ( discerning you would call this ? )
spirit are beautiful
and thank you for such a respectful question xx

I do believe that. When my grandma died, it bothered us all, but my mom took it very very hard (it was her mother). This is a sort of strange thing, but my grandmother smoked Lucky Strikes, unfiltered, and they had a very strong recognizable smell. It was the cigarette smoking that eventually killed her.
But after she died, my mom would sometimes smell that smell of the Lucky Strikes, when no one was around smoking. And she would feel like my mammaw was there comforting her.
Sometimes when she would smell that, she could hear in her mind a saying that would be something only my grandma would say. My mom would laugh, thinking, "That's so like my Mom!"

I have many dreams about my grandma. I don't know if it's just me thinking of her (probably) or if she has something to do with some of those dreams. But I do believe that there's something to it, especially in my Mom's case.
