There are two things that come to mind about feline hair loss. Parasites and nutrition. Where has this cat been? Does it go out? could it have picked up fleas? If it's parasites, ask your vet for something called Revolution. Kills everything dead.
Nutrition, what are you feeding cat? Sometimes a cat will need a vitamin supplement. What you need is something that has Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids in it. Look for cod liver oil in the list of ingredients. Also vitamins A D & E.
Another problem might be a food alergy or somekind of other alergy? Have you changed his food?
What they do for a food alergy is take the cat off the supermarket chow and give him a special food he's never eaten before like venison or rabbit.
This can be very complex. I would take him to the vet.

I say this humbly, but to treat the cat for hair loss you must first find out the CAUSE, otherwise, home remedies or otherwis, you won't be able to successfully treat the problem. You will just end up using all kinds of products and substances and may compound the prooblem. The cheapest way to treat your cat is to take him to the vet and they will scrape a bit of his top skin, look under the microscope to see if it is mites, or something else and THEN you will know what is wrong and be given an appropriate treatment.
My cat had this problem. I took him to vet, who scraped a sample of his skin and ruled out mites - cost me $25.00. He suggested a medicated shampoo whch I bought from the vet office and voila! after 2 weeks, the cat's hair was noriceably growing back. Since then, I found out that my cat begins to loose hair in spots whenever he has fleas - so, the problem was flea allergy. I see to it that he has no fleas and his coat is fine.

The answer to your question depends on why your cat is losing her hair. Have you taken her to a vet to determine the cause? It could be any number of things, such as: 1. Flea allergies. Buy Frontline (or Advantage or Revolution) and apply to your cat, as well as treat your house. 2. General allergies. Vet can give your kitty an allergy shot. 3. Diabetes. Vet can check her glucose levels and adjust her diet accordingly. 4. Lack of nutrition. You can change her food to a better diet. 5. Feline Leukemia. Vet can run a test to determine this. It is contagious, so if she's +, keep her away from other cats.
Hope this helps and good luck w/ your kitty!

Your cat needs a vet, not information from the "internet". You can't treat his hair loss until you know what is wrong and only your vet is going to be able to tell you that.
It probably will cost you less in the long run to just go to the vet now. You obviously care about your cat and he needs you to do the right thing. Please take him to the vet.
Hope he gets better soon, good luck.

First, check to see if your cat has fleas. If its a food allergy, or other skin condition, try a product called "Dr. maggies" It's guaranteed to work or the company will refund your money. I sell this product for $15 CDN for a small bottle (enough to see if it would help.) I have lots of clients phoning me after 2 weeks and saying that they have seen results. The company says by 4 - 8 weeks you should see improvement. I think they have a website but im not near home right now to get info. Its an all natural product as well! good luck

Well cats with hair loss don't always have a medical issue. It could be that your cat is too stressed out. Have you moved recently or gotten any new pets that might stress your cat out? If you don't think it is stress, it might just be an allergic reaction to the food you are feeding it. Try switching foods and if that doesn't help, you should definitely seek the help of a vet.

Everything I researched said that severe hair loss can be a symptom of serious disease that needs to be treated by a vet. There were several home treatments for other things, but not that. Sorry.

He most likely has fleas-get Frontline or advantage from your vet or a reputable internet pet pharmacy. Using some of the over-the-counter products on cats could have some serious consequences

hair loss is a symptom of a condition. you need to see a vet to find out what is causing the hair loss.
one possiblity is ringworm and is highly contagious for people and other animals. you should isolate the cat and get it to the vet as soon as possible.
