I am in the same boat. You never forget. I am 57.You will learn to move on or it will drive you crazy. Just push it to the back of your mind and leave it there. It will pop up occasionally, but that is part of life.Just try to move on.

I think what it could be is that you were involved with a soulmate. I have a friend who was luckey enought to find her soulmate but thru her own actions they broke up. Now 8 years later she keeps trying to find a replacement but nothing is working. I know another one going thru what you are, and she told me not a day goes by that she doesn't think of the other person. I went thru this and it took me 5 years. I accidentally found the one I thought I would spend my lide with, but the other person didn't feel the same so here I am again, going thru what you are. Please don't feel that you are the only one going through this, you are NOT! Instead of trying to forget her, why not call or email her and see what she is doing these days. She might have changed so much that you will find closure and move on. Or maybe you can get involved with her again?

It's probably not a disorder, you just haven't found anyone yet that can compare to her. Keep dating, keep an open mind, and eventually you will find another. Try not to obsess about her, when she pops into your mind tell yourself that you are wasting your time thinking about her, and try to start thinking about something else. If you do that long enough you will wake up one day and find that, hey,... I don't really care that much about her anymore.
Also, rent the movie Swingers - it's about breakups, depression, obsession, and finally - getting over it and finding someone new.
Good luck!

Babes this isnt a psychiatric disorder as I'm sure most of us have been heartbroken or a bit obsessed by someone in our lives it just depends how far your obsession spans i suppose.
The best way to get over someone is to get under someone (else) !

You could try approaching her directly one last time to but an end to things finally. you never know your luck. If she rejects you then you will be faced with no option but to accept that and move on.
Maybe you are generally lonely and you never found anyone else who could be in a special relationship with you. Yeah, it sounds like a combination of the blues and loneliness where you keep thinking back to a past experience and relationship to fill a void in your life.
Get out more. Date somebody new.
You must move on.

She must have been quite a woman. Why do you want to forget someone who obviously made a huge impact on your life? Keep her in your memory but don't compare her.
Life is a great mystery and you just never know what is in store for you just around the corner.
