Yes it does sound like she is pregnant. I am a dog breeder and vet assistant so I am rather familiar with pregnant dogs.
Her belly will be larger in most cases; her appetite and thirst will increase; hence she will have to urinate more. Her belly will get tight; the she will start getting milk and the nipples will get larger and swollen; sometimes if she is near her due date you can actually squeeze them and milk will come out.
Her belly will get extremely tight; the scar in fact as many people mentioned DOES in fact indicate a C-Section. Near her due date if she is pregnant her belly will seem to have dropped; which if you are feeling and seeing movement in her belly I guesstimate you may have pups within the next 2-3 weeks. With her standing up; run your hands over her abdomen and with gentle pressue push on them; you can usually feel the pups. Also when she is lying on her belly watch her for a while because around the time she is due to deliver you will usually actually be able to see the legs pressing against her stomach. Also she will usually slack off eating or not eat at all the day she is going to deliver.
IF she is pregnant she should start exhibiting nesting symptoms; tyring to find a place to have her pups or arranging and rearraning her blankets/sleeping quarters to make way for the pups.
Also you can start taking her tempature rectally; when it drops it is a sure sign that pups are coming within 24 hours.
Hope this helps.

First of all, I would like to thank you for saving her from the puppy mill. With you, she now has a chance at life. I am actually amazed that you were able to get her, normally they terminate any of the dogs that they are done using. Second, it really sounds like she is pregnant and is very possibly due soon. Very soon. If you can see movement and feel "tapping", which would be the puppies kicking, then thats means they are just about about fully developed. With her belly being tight and tense, that sounds like she might go into labor soon, possilby within the next week or sooner. Take her to vet, they can give her an exam and do an x-ray to tell you when she should be expecting. Don't think about the money, think about the well being of your new love and the puppies you are about to receive, both deserve the best. Just think of the horrible postion your dog and her puppies would be in if they were still at the mill. When the puppies do come, let them stay with their mom for at least 6 to 8 weeks, in the meen time, start looking for good homes, and make sure they pay you for the puppies, they appreciate them more that way. You don't have to charge alot, but at least the person will feel like the puppy is more of an investment. Please be sure to screen your possible puppy owners, you want them to go to good loving homes. If you get a bad feeling about someone, maybe you witness a short temper, then just say no. You have every right to deny a puppy to anyone you do not feel is fit to be a loving responsible, and above all, patient owner. Puppies are a lot of work, as are human children. These are your babies and you don't want to send them to a bad environment. Enjoy the little miracle you are about to receive, puppies are awesome. Watching them being born, watching them grow, opening their eyes, playing with each other and you. My favorite, puppy breath, there is nothing better. Enjoy it, it is an amazing experiance that you never forget. Don't forget to take pictures.

If you can get her to stand still, put both your hands on either side of her stomach if you feel movement then I would say yes she is pregnant. What to do with the puppies, well, after she has weaned them when they are about 6-8 weeks old I would try to find a home for them. Don't sell them just give them to people you know want to have a puppy and are going to give it a good home. If she is not very big she may only have a couple of pups. If you are truely concerned then by all means go to the vet but if all she is doing is eating and showing signs of pregnancy everything should be ok. Good luck and please let us know if she has them.

It definitely sounds like she is pregnant. If the pups are moving around a lot, it could be only a matter of days before she has her babies. The indentation(scar) running down her tummy could well be a scar from a c-section and if she had a c-section before, it is highly likely she will need one again. For this reason alone you should take her to the vet and find out for sure ifshe is pregnant, how many pups, about when the pups are due and if the vet thinks she can have the pups by herself. You will have to watch her very closely. Good luck. You will probably have to give the pups away.

Hi Cass,
I hate puppy mills..BUT.. This one has a happy ending for your dog. I'm glad you got her out of there.
Now, the bad news.. Yes, it does sound like she is pregnant, and the little "scar" you are seeing most likely means she had a C-section before.
There is a very likely chance that she will require another C-section this time, too. VERY possibly why the breeder sold her.. Did not want to pay for another section. What breed of dog is she?
I would make an appt. with the Vet and tell him/her the whole story. If you do so now, the Dr. may agree to a payment plan if she does have to have a C-section this time.
Good luck and keep us posted!!

Have you tried antacids? I know you think it's not gas but it sounds like it. Or if it usually occurs after you eat you can asume it might be the digestion period. Also it depeds on what youreating. Not to scare you but if you've gone out of thecountry recently or eaten something new that you never have before you could have a parasite of a type of stomach virus . It may not make you throw up but it can cause discomfort to you. I would really make an appointment they will probably ask tons of questions but you should first and for most review what you mainly have eaten in the past couple weeks and go from there.

and the end of the day you have that dog and she may be having pups OK well i relay think that no matter what the cost you should go down the vets they will give her a scan and it will only cost around£50 if that you need to know if all is OK just thin kl if she has a scare and has had pups before then yon need to get her checked out a s a p it would be better to go and let the vet see her because you will know where you stand if she went into labour in the nite it would cost you a lot more money if you had the vet out in the middle of the nite for the health and safety of the dog go to the vets and they will tell you if all is ok and that is all you need to know then you can relax and enjoy her having her pups and you will not have to worry and what ever you do don't give the pups away if they want them make them pay they will love and care for them good luck when all is ok GO BACK WHERE YOU GOT YOUR DOG FROM PUNCH THE OWNER ON THE NOSE AND GIVE HIM THE VET BILL and tell him he is a wanker and not fit to have animals give him another punch on the nose and say that's of gizzy

My dog has just had puppies and i was at that stage too. What type of dog is it that you have because i noticed differences in my westie that were not the same as my sister in laws dog. The only thing i can really tell you is that i could feel light taps in her tummy the week before she delivered. so its sounds highly likely that she is. But if she is i will say to you DONT PANIC you will be okay just make sure you build her a box and have a heat lamp avalible to keep the puppies warm. I hope everything works out ok for you the only other bit of advice i would give you is if your not sure of anything dont be afraid to put it on here i have had loads of help. And dont worry about the puppies and wot you will do with them it will all sort itself out when they are born. Good luck

It sounds extremely likely that she is pregnant. When a dog's belly becomes tight and you can see and feel puppies moving around, it is usually almost time for her to go into labor.
The scar you talk about sounds to me like a C-section scar. If it is about 4-5 inches long, that could be what it is. Do you know if she's had a C-section before? If she has had one before, chances are she will have to have one again. Watch her very closely when she goes into labor for any problems (like excessive straining, foul odor, etc), as this will be your sign to get her to a vet asap for a C-section.
Good luck and congrats on your dog's pregnancy!

The line ,or scar on her stomach sounds like maybe she has had a C-section in the past,or some other type of surgery.Try standing her on all 4 paws, and sorta feel underneath in her stomach area,if she is pregnant and far enough along in her pregnancy you should be able to feel the pups, feels like hard balls about the size of a small rubber ball.If her stomach is soft than she isn't carring pups. The movements and thumps you feel sound like she may be with pups,so watch her carefully. If in doubt, you're welcome to e-mail me and will try to help you out.
