What are the risks of getting an ear piercing? Professionally, at a Pharmacy, I mean. What precautions must a person take to prevent infection - or worse, gas gangrene?
And the difference between a piercing on the earlobe and upper ear cartilage - health risks, I mean.
Thank you!

I have 4 in each ear,1 at the top, none hurt much, the one at the top didnt hurt at all.I got mine done with a gun, bang & its over, forget a needle they have to work it in.as long as the place looks clean it should be ok,if you go to a to a pharmacy get some surgical sprit while your there & dab it on twice a day, will sting a bit at first but will keep it clean & you'll be fine & dandy!

Just take care of it, clean it as instructed etc. I've never heard of anyone getting gangrene from an ear piercing, the wound from a piercing is not that severe.
Just make sure you go to a reputable place, with people who have experience. They know what they are doing, they have been trained! And they will instruct you on how to clean it and everything. Although you should know that a cartilage piercing takes more time to heal.

Don't get your ears pierced at a Pharmacy - go to a proper piercer as they will use a needle rather than a gun, which is much safer. Once you've had it done keep it clean with salt water and when you wash your hair be careful not to get shampoo etc. on it. No difference between different types of ear piercings but upper ear will take longer to heal and be more painful at the time of piercing.

the difference is that on the lobe its just skin whereas at the top is more likely to become sore, i am very very clean and take great care of myself but i had the top done and it got very sore and takes ages to heal compared to the ear lobe. and also the butterfly on the back kept sticking into my head at night so i had sores on my head where it kept digging in.

get it done at a good.clean place and just keep the piercing clean,i doubt anyone would get gangrene from a piercing,...unless they were extremely filthy people.
