The cat has got to associate the action of attacking your leg with something negative. For example, get something that makes a loud noise, like a small paper bag you can bust.....next time it does it, explode the bag next to it. After a couple of times it won't attack your leg. Or just hit it with a FLAT neswspaper. Makes a lot of noise but will not hurt it.

Sounds like your cat has developed a liking for mock stalk-attack with you as the target. That is what he is doing - he is playing. You can discourage the behavior by squirting him with water or making a startling noise by clapping your hands har or rattling some pebbles in a tim jar each time he latches on to your leg. At the same time, re-direct his play antics to more appropriate objects like cat toys. Get a feather teaser and play with him but each time he uses his claws on you, say something like "Ow-wow" or "NO!" and stop play immediately and leave the room. He'll get the idea that he cannot rough-play with you or his fun times will be over plenty quick.

as long as he is not breaking the skin that means he is playing tell he it hurts and DON'T HIT he is already excited and may get carried away if you do play with him more he loves you and needs the affection CATS ARE NOT LOW MAINTENANCE PETS they are very affectionate and playful with lots of energy if you think that hurts wait until someone tries hurting you or restraining you in he's present that cat will show him what pain is if they love you they will attack against any odds

I had the same problem years ago (and still do occasionally). My cat's father was a "ferile" or wild cat. They inherit the "aberated behavior naturally from their parents. My cat was put on Prozac years ago and it controls his impulse reaction. I would suggest that you take your cat to an Animal Behavioral Clinic or Hospital and have it observed and treated.

It may have been attacked or something when it was younger. Did you "rescue" it? If so, there's a chance it may have been feral and been predatory early in its life, and in such situations, having to hunt is common, and the cat may be exhibiting "hunting" behavior.

He is probably just being playful and your leg is the object of his playfulness. You can try carrying around a squirt bottle and squirting him every time he does this, or giving him a small slap or something, or shouting suddenly or making a sharp sound like a clap or shaking a can full of pennies.

Im guessing he just wants attention. I have a cat that does that whenever we walk by him. I also have a cat that attacks your face when you least expect it!!! She is seriously bipolar! Just dont ever wear shorts around the house and you should be fine! lol

my cat does this sometimes, they're just playing around, find like a thick string or something for them to play with. My older cat likes to play with my hair ties.
