I've had a female cat for a little over 3 years. Everything was fine until about 4 months ago. Now everytime she is about to go into heat she decides I am some unknown enemy. If I get anywhere near her, she hisses and growls. My children and husband have no such problems with her, it seems to be just me. Now it is starting to happen more frequently. Is it hormones, or is she losing her mind? Any help would be appreciated.

By the way, I have not hit my cat or anything else like that. She only goes into fits occasionally, and the rest of the time she is my best friend, follows me everywhere and all that.

did you smack her or do something to offend her this will cause the behavior you describe cats are very sensitive and will hold a grudge what do you do different from the rest of the family also she may have bonded closely with on of the children and you may be having problems with this child if so give the cat some space and when things calm down he should be OK

Your cat may recognize as the ALPHA animal in the house and is challenging you - the hormones may be affecting her this way. BUT this is just a guess. I suggest the painless sokution is to ignore her while she is in this mode.
