skin around the eyes becoming itchen, swollen, and red.?

off and on for months now I've been struggling with my eyes. The skin around my eyes will get really itchy (normally at night which keeps me up). I don't itch them a whole lot, but it gets so bothersome that I just have to. In the morning my eyes are swollen and all the skin around is beat red. It leaves me looking like a retarded drug user. Nothing seems to help, eye drops seem to make it worse. I've used a good eye skin lotion but nothing. I'll ice it a while in the morning so I can open my eyes but it only makes the swelling go away slightly and brings out the red. I am not allergic to anything and can’t seem to pin point why some nights they itch and others don’t. Anyone have this problem or ideas?

Even though you're unaware of being allergic to anything, you can still be allergic, or become allergic to anything at anytime. I'd get rid of the eye lotion, or any make up you've been using (if you're a woman). If you have any pets that climb in your bed at night, or during the day, don't let them anymore. You may have developed a sensitivity to their dander and flare ups may be related to the days they spend more time in your room. . Put all your bedding and pillows in the wash and keep your bedroom door closed to keep pets out. You're having a reaction to something in your environment and it's something that's getting near or into your eyes.

This happened to me once in the early 20's and I found out that I was allergic to my mascara..Then I got allergic to most mascaras...of, course, the doctor should take a look...But anyway, I got these eye drops for allergies (easy to find, ask the pharmacist) and switched around until L'Oreal (which is Hypoallergenic) worked for me and has every since. But, as many said, a doc should take a look in case it's something else...

i have been battling this problem myself, and i think i have found the cause. i believe i have developed a sensitivity to the sun. it seems when i spend to much time in the sun without adequate protection around the eyes or sunblock, coupled with insufficient water ingestion.

It sounds like excema to me. I would see a doc to be sure. You do not want to hurt your vision.

yeah see a specialist. you might have developed skin asthma. are you in a place where its cold or has low humidity? does anyone in your family have eczema? stay healthy...

Here is a formula that has helped several people I know. Testimonials at the bottom.

Cause
Sty: Toxic poison accumulation , conjunctivitis, foreign particle, poor vision, cataracts, glaucoma.

Herbal Aids
1.Sty: Apply a hot fomentation of strong sarsaparilla tea over the eye.

2.Ophthalmic (sore eye, inflammation of the eye). See formula using raspberry, agrimony, eyebright and buckbean.

3.Ophthalmia, Eye Inflammation: Apply the compound oil to the eye on cotton using formula of oil or rue and olive oil.

4.Herbal Eyewash: (Herbal Eyebright) This formula is excellent for brightening and healing eyes, and it is known to remove the cataracts and heavy film from the eyes. See formula using bayberry, cayenne, eyebright, golden seal and red raspberry leaves.

5.Sty: Place a fomentation of mullein leaves, red raspberry leaves, golden seal, slippery elm, lobelia and marshmallow root over the eye. Apply for one hour each, a fresh application three or more times a day, or leave on all night, until healed.

6.Dr. Christopher's Eyewash: (Herbal Eyebright) This formula is excellent for brightening and healing the eyes, and it is known to remove the cataracts and heavy film from the eyes: Make tea and put into a glass eye cup. There will be a slight burning sensation when using the cayenne in the eye at first, but there is nothing to be concerned about. Tip head back and apply the eye cup to eye. Exercise eye while doing this as though you were swimming under water. Do this three to six times a day. Drink 1/2 cup a.m. and p.m. This formula has aided many sty cases.

7. Baby Clogged Eye Duct: If your baby has an eye infection which is not gonorrheal you can suspect a plugged tear duct. Many mothers gently massage the area and/or wash it with eyebright and golden seal tea, which sometimes helps open the duct. If it doesn't open after a couple of months, you may wish to go to a good eye doctor for surgical opening of the duct.

8.Conjunctivitis: Some babies--and children--get pinkeye or conjunctivitis. To treat this eye infection a warm pack of chickweed or teas of red raspberry leaf or eyebright and golden seal, meticulously strained through sterile muslin, can be used to wash the eye. Some midwives suggest flooding the eyes with mother's milk, which contains antibodies. I have tried this with my seven-year-old, who had caught a neighborhood infection of pinkeye. I flooded his eyes with my milk several times a day, and his infection cleared up fast. He thought it was pretty funny, too.
