Why are Supermax Prisons called what they are?

Highest maximum security prisons, pretty much escape proof. The has also been maximum security prisons, but with the more violent offenders out there these days that were escaping from the regular prisons, they made "Super Max Prisons" High security, surveilance systems every where, I have heard of a few to be partially under ground. They watch every move they make 24-7.

The highest security possible.

I read inmates sit in their concrete cells 23 hours a day under video surveillance, 1 hour in a little fenced in exercise yard, walls are soundproofed so guys can't communicate, windows are way up in the cell so they can't look outside.

Shitty, shitty place to be, reserved for the most high profile criminals in most cases.

There are varous levels of security in prisons,

and various states have various names for them,

camps, min security, open population, protectivtive custody, maximum security, high max, and various names for super high max security.

In each levels there are different activites and differnet items the inmate is allowed to have .
