Is it possible to fit a cat flap in a UPVC door yourself or does it need to be done professionally? If I can do it myself anyone know a good and easy to fit brand to use?

This is something you can do yourself, but not recommended. Most companies don't like fitting them, I know this because I've just had new doors fitted and I asked about these dog doors.
Are you doors still under guarantee? If so contact the company that fitted them, it will cost but at least you'll have a guarantee for the fitting. Nothing worse than them leaking. Some doors have locks on them, that work with a collar which you put on your cat/dog. That way only a cat/dog wearing the collar can get in. Better that than everybody's cat coming in your house.

I'm in the middle of trying to buy a house. One of the ones I went to look at had a cat flap in every single door in the house (yes, even the toilet and bathroom). It made me wonder who on earth lived there, cats or humans! But it answers your question. Yes, you can put a cat flap in the UPVC door. They'd sawn a chunk out of a panel and fitted the cat flap in exactly the same way you would do in a wooden door.
I like the idea of using a stiletto heel to get the hole started though. Get rid of all your frustrations at the same time!

you can do it yourself. I have one. Any make will do. Use the template to cut the hole through the panel and just fit it. I always use a 4 way locking cat flap. It can be locked so it is all open (cats come in and go out) all closed, in only or out only. At niight when I want my cats to stay in and be safe, I turn the lock so that they can come in, but not go back out again. The make is staywell and I got it from Argos for around a tenner.
You can actually use a hacksaw blade or bredknife to cut the hole in the panel of the door.

You must remove the UPVC panel, so you can cut the hole for the cat flap as low as possible.
If you don t remove the panel you may damage bead or worse still the door frame.
Also leave a little room for cat flap movement as the panel never fits into the door squarely, the is nothing worse than a cat flap in a door that isn t level.
Tools you require:
1. A good glazing knife (the panel is fitted into your door the same as a glass panel is) to loosen bead.
2. A white mallet (a black mallet leaves black marks on your bead and panel, virtually impossible to clean off) to knock bead back in once finished.
3. A jigsaw with a blunt or very fine blade (as most blades will splinter the UPVC leaving big cracks in your panel) to cut the hole
4. A drill with a 8 or 10mm drill bit
5. A marker to draw shape
6. you may require security tape if beading is on outside of door (very rare). some doors are externally beaded with a wedge gasket on inside, if so replace with security tape as it is very simple to for a burglar to remove outside bead as UPVC frames have a slight give to them. With security tape the bead can still be removed but the panel is stuck fast to the inside of the door frame and the panel can t be removed before cutting through security tape from inside.

HOW TO FIT CAT FLAP:

1. slide glazing knife between door frame and bead along the left or right bead then push knife towards the frame not the panel and repeat all the way down (the first bead is always the hardest to remove) then the same with top bead and final side bead. (don t remove bottom bead) Open door and push panel hard.
2. Don t use template provided with cat flap, use the outside section of the cat flap. Place the bottom frame of the cat flap about 2 inches up from the bottom edge of the panel and draw the inside shape of the cat flap. Get a nail and mark the 2 screw holes with the mallet.
3. Drill holes in the 4 corners of your drawn shape and drill where the nail marks where left
4. now use the jigsaw to cut shape out going about 1/8 of an inch around the outside of your drawn line
5. remove bottom bead from door and fit panel in to door always put bottom bead in first followed by top bead, the 2 side beads are longer so you can bend them slightly to fit back (always knock both ends in before knocking side beads in as it may not fit in properly.
6. fit cat flap into panel and screw the fittings in until they bind a little adjust cat flap until level and give 2 more turns to each screw.
