Hi Lily!
Homework due on Monday?
Well, let's see if we can get you set up with some websites so you can draw your own conclusions. I'll try to stay with the two questions and I'll try my hardest answer both with the websites I show you okay?
http://www.baldeagleinfo.com/

http://www.usflag.org/baldeagle.html

http://www.kidsplanet.org/factsheets/bald_eagle.html

http://bensguide.gpo.gov/3-5/symbols/eagle.html

http://www.fws.gov/Endangered/i/b0h.html

That ought to help you decide for yourself. "wizardslizards" is correct that they are no lionger on the endangered species list; they were removed from that list in 1995. However they are still considered "Threatened".
Lily, do you have an opinion about this? Maybe you will when you finish the research. Good luck to you on your homework and I hope you get an "A".

Because by killing them it would upset the balance of nature. An example is on Catalina Island(in California) when Bald Eagles that existed on the island where all wiped out due to DDT spraying, leaving their niche to be filled by Golden Eagles. The Golden Eagles took over and started killing and eating all the Santa Catalina Island Foxes...an endemic species and cause this species to become endangered. They eventually had to do all sorts of captive breeding programs for the foxes, and they had to re-introduce the Bald Eagle to get the Golden Eagles off the island, so that things would go back to "normal". The island foxes are still endangered...but doing well thanks to the re-introduction of the Bald Eagles.(keep in mind the DDT use happened 40-50 YEARS ago and we are still recovering from it) This is just ONE small example or ONE small island...imagine the affects worldwide if the Bald Eagle was to disappear.

Why? Do you wanna be mean and kill an endangered species? I mean seriously, why would anyone wanna kill a bald eagle. Look at how it flies, it's so graceful. Not impressed? See how the catch prey. Someone who's an idiot wouls kill a bird like that. Are you an idiot? Once you start wiping out this bird..... go ahead and wipe every animal out. Then see how lucky we are to have animals on our planet. And that dude who told you that the eagles are killing fish and mice to eat.....hey it's called that when an eagle needs to survive they need to eat don't they. So what if they poop you do too. It's just that you no where to go and eagles are not quite potty trained. Why don't we take food from you. See what will happen.

If the bald eagle was a pest species like the crow and magpie, attacking livestock and pets and over populated then there would be a legitimate reason for a cull on bald eagles, however these animals are protected for several reason, mainly because they are Americas national symbol. If they weren't they probably wouldn't be as popular, but seeing as they are not a dangerous or problem bird and because tourists will flock from miles just to see them in their natural environment. It is good for income, tourism and national spirit.

I do not think you should kill any animal, but the Bald Eagle is a symbolic bird. Represents freedom and the United States. And the whole endangered deal. Kinda like stomping on your state flower, except you are killing a beautiful animal.

1st of all you can not eat birds of prey. But also, all birds of prey are just in the past few years finally recovering from DDT and other chemicals. I like to see hawks, falcons and eagles...there are a powerful symbol of life and are beautiful powerful creatures...why kill them for sport, it makes no sense.

To those who said they kill a lot of wildlife, baloney. they are part of the wild Eco-system, you by going into the wild are a foreigner. leave them alone, let them have a few rabbits and fish. Man is the biggest culprit in destroying and devastating wild populations, the amount they eat is nothing compared to our impact. Why is it that hunters an fishermen are more worried about how much they can get and not about having real wilderness...and a sportsman would be ignorant and short sighted to want to destroy the very thing he enjoys.

To all those that have had their noses stuck in lib land... the Bald Eagle is no longer endangered, in fact there are too many in certain areas of the country and are becoming a nuisance by killing off too many fish and other wildlife.

As for the question, do your own damn homework! You teacher didn't give you an assignment to do an essay about what other people felt did he/she?

It's a symbol of Freedom in America and is also a beautiful creature, it's also an endangered species so you definitely shouldn't kill them.
