It's probably about the joke question when a tree falls in the forest and there's no one there, does it still make a sound... He was probably just trying to be funny

Maybe he's Deaf???

No, you're right it's stupid.

Wow... I swear some people just shouldn't even try.

It only works if people can relate. Who can relate to that... a deaf man?? If you were telling him what happened he wouldn't laugh because he couldn't hear what you were saying... unless he could read lips or he read it in the paper as you did.

Even so, I still say... The guy should have kept his mouth shut, not said or typed anything because now he is made to look like an As$ to anyone who reads that in the paper.
Way to go, Mr. Comedian!

well it might be a play on words to the philosophical question of 'if a tree falls and someone is not around to hear it, does it make a sound?'. It sounds like your funny man was trying to be clever AND funny but it hasnt worked. Oh and for your information, no the tree doesnt make a sound, not one that we could confirm anyway!

A:He is either deaf or listening to other things.
The tree could also be so quiet , or there's other loud noises around, like a river rapid.

B(he wrote it): He has amnesia, short term memort loss, or he wasn't paying attention.

C: Alien made it fall and zapped it before hitting the ground. Then they wrote the article and erased this man's memory

I totally get it. it is a reference to the "if a tree falls... " question.

He was saying that he didn't hear the tree there fore it is confirmed that it doesn't make a noise if we are able to hear it. It leaves the original question unanswered but it made you stop and think which was the point.

It's one of those throwaway lines that can be very funny at the time but do not bear retelling.
