In this case, you would need to install a second drive as the "PRIMARY" drive.
Change the current drive to "SLAVE" drive.

Use a "Multiboot" program to set up the drives giving you the option of starting from EITHER drive, and then load win 98 as the Primary drive OS. (Depending on the program you may have to load Win98 before the multiboot program.)

Be aware that the Win98 will NOT be able to even "see" the file system used on the secondary drive, and may not even find the drive, but the reverse is not true.

Now that you know HOW, the question is WHY?

If you MUST have both OS's, I would put them on SEPARATE systems.
(You can put separate systems in the same case using a "switch" that switches the HD BEFORE starting; in which case BOTH drives would be MASTER's since you could only access one or the other. It is called a "TRIOS", from Romtec. It allows 3 master drives through 1 HD connector. They have a version that switches manually, and a later version that switches from the keyboard. I suggest the "manual" version if still available.)

This is because SOME files have the same name in both systems, but different contents and it could cause problems if the XP accesses 98 files when running programs.

What you are trying to do makes no sense at all. It's comparable to rubbing two sticks together to make a fire (Windows 98) as is compared to matches or a lighter (XP). Come into the 21st century and use the modern tools available to you.

The only way I'd recommend you do this is to install a 2nd hard drive and select it as the primary boot drive and install Win 98 there.

u must reformat your drive using fdisk. Windows 98 uses dos as its base operating system and XP uses NTFS. I don't think it is a good idea to go back to Windows 98

in case you opt for to do a sparkling deploy in basic terms insert the disk you burned the ISO image to on your dvd-rom tension and reboot your workstation. something is following the instructions provided. For twin boot i decide for to advise downloading burning and working the G-Parted ISO so which you will re length your frustrating tension so the two working structures can co-exist on the comparable tension devoid of you loosing any information. In case for in spite of reason you finally end up no longer taking good care of seven your bases are coated.
