No, it is indirectly related. It is thought that colds spread better in cold weather. But the truth of the matter is that in winter people are inside more often and in close quarters with other people who are sick. This causes more people to spread the virus around.
According to some studies cold can weaken the immune system indirectly. This is simply due to the requirement of energy it takes to keep the body warm. Do you ever notice that you get really tired sometimes and then sick. This is because being tired weakens your immune system.

Absolutely not! Colds are caused by germs and viruses. Breathing in extremely cold air can trigger bronchial spasms, but they shouldn't last more than a few minutes. That's very different than a cold or the flu. Colds are often associated with cold weather, but it is more due to the fact that we spend more time indoors with the window and doors closed. The reduced air exchange means we breath in the germs other people cough and sneeze out much easier.

Two of the biggest wives's tails are: "put a jacket on, you'll catch cold" or close the window, I don't want to catch cold". Colds are only caused by germs/viruses. Putting dirty hands in your eyes and mouth are the biggest causes of spreading colds and flu.
So leave your jacket off and wash your hands frequently and see what a difference it makes.

doctors say no, but experience has taught me otherwise. Perhaps it's an indirect cause, because if you get cold, your metabolism lowers and you are up to catch viruses easier.

No, but cold lowers your immune system so then when you get around bacteria and viruses you're more vulnerable.
