Whats the point of paying a recycling charge on car tyres when you find loads dumped all over the countryside, would it be better to dump them at sea,I believe they do so in Australia to help make reefs for marine life.

But the rubbers are really toxic. I thought that would kill sea life

Yes you are right. Tyre reefs is the answer. The marine life growing on the reef is not affected by the substances that come out of the tyre.Tyres in the sea are extremely stable. Not a lot comes out of them. Most pollution in the sea caused by tyres comes from the pollutants that come off working tyres and are washed from the road into the sea by rainwater. But this does not mean they are totally harmless. They are not very harmful.

There is a power station in the midlands that runs only on used car tyres, it save all of the metals in the tyres and recycles them......... what a good idea, making power form scrap!

Tire/tyres are better used in shredding and combined with asphalt for road resurfacing.

this is being done, already, but on a miniscule scale.

I really doubt if rubber would aid in reef buildup.

you have a good thought but it will only pollute the waters and the animals will die or get sick.
