First ensure that you have the latest drivers for your sound card and system. Check the manufactur's website for information about compatability issues while you are there. If that does not fix the problem check for a resource conflict in the systems folder under hardware.

TRASH THE WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER 9
AND INSTALL THE NEWEST VERSION IF YOU ARE THAT LOYAL TO WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER

REVERT TO YOUR PREVIOUS VERSION IF YOU CAN

TRY WITH OTHER PLAYER IF YOU DONT MIND AND SEE IF THE SOUND WORK

USE WINAMP
USE VLC
USE MEDIA PLAYER CLASSIC(NOT FROM MICROSOFT)

IF IT WORKS THEN NO PROBLEM WITH YOUR DRIVERS THE PROBLEM IS WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER

IF IT DOESNT THEN WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER CAUSED IT AND MAY HAVE MESSED UP YOUR DRIVER FILES FOR YOUR SOUND CARD OR OTHERS
ANYWAY YOU HAVE TO EXECUTE THE GUILTY PARTY AND THEN INSTALL THE DRIVER AGAIN FOR THE SOUND COMPONENT
