Of course, non-muslims can be friends with muslims. Why not? Islam teaches to be tolerant of other religions, no matter what. According to the Qur'an, you are not considered a Muslim if you do not believe in Christianity or Judaism. To answer your question, yes it is permitable for a Muslim to befriend a non-muslim. I am muslim and i have many, many non-muslim friends at school. I love them as much as i love my muslim friends.

Muslims as well as all other religions can be friends as thats one thing that has no boundries. I am a Hindu and should be a logger heads with the Muslims but thats not true at all. I have a lot of friends who are Muslims and they play a major role in the development of our Country. Just by the way, the President of our Country, India is a Muslim.

I think you are so very misleaded.

There's like 40 ppl in my office and only 7 are muslims (teh rest are Christian, Buddhist and Hindu) and yes, we are ALL friends.

Never once did I hear any muslim preachers in my area preaching 'Do not befriend non-muslims' or read the same anywhere in the Holy Quran.

But you fail to understand that Qur'an was revealed in Arabic. The arabic word that has been used is 'Auliya' which is more closer to the word 'allies' in english.

Moreover, this is so ironical, because most of the non-muslims, they really pick and choose when it comes to Muslims. What I mean by this is that, sometimes they would say "Oh! Muslims do this!, this is so bad!!, Islam is bad!!!" even when that action is against Islam they attribute it to Islam. Secondly, they would choose to pick a verse from the Qur'an, and knowing that Arabic is much much much more diverse than English, they would extract the meanings and form their own interpretation and again conclude Islam is bad. Obviously enough, this tells of their PREJUDICE against ISLAM.

If they would have been sincere, they would have found the information, especially these days Google has made it so easy for everyone.

One of my best friends in the world is a Lebanese man who is Muslim. I am no religion at all. So yes, they can, and do. He is one of the sweetest, most giving, and forgiving people I know.
