After it heals? Just lotion if the skin gets dry.

While its healing use A&D diaper rash cream.

You should've gotten instructions from your artist/shop. However there is a product out there called 'tattoo goo' that is quite popular...if you can't find that, wash it initially with an antibacterial soap (and don't touch it w/o clean hands) and moisurize it 4 or 5 times a day with a fragrance free (lanolin free) moisturizer...my tattoo guy suggests Curel but I'm sure there are others.

Basically, you want to keep it clean, because it's an abrasion and can become infected if dirty...but you also want to keep it moist because it will try real hard to dry out (and may do so anyway, and may even peel...just keep moisturizing)...mine had "heat" in it for a day or so after it was done...

Or call a local tattoo shop and ask about their after-care recommendations...you can also do a search online for tattoo care and will come up with tons of info...

My tattoo guy recomends a product called Tattoo Goo. You can get it at many tattoo places, but I have also used Aquafore (spellling?). They both work great, but Aquafore doesn't smell. You can get that over the counter at any pharmacy/drug/grocery store. It's also a helpful product to keep around the house for any chappped skin (lips, elbows, feet...). Plus, unlike Tattoo Goo, you will actually use it again. I always loose the small container of Tattoo Goo before I get another tattoo and then need it again.

bacitracin ointment. you can find it at any pharmacy/drugstore and it's like a mix between mineral oil and vaseline, but it has a gentle antibiotic in it which helps heal the skin and keep out infection, and it also keep it moist so it doesn't peel. avoid letting it dry out, like by swimming in chlorine or letting your clothes wipe off the bacitracin, and keep it out of the sun. once it's fully healed, keep it sunblocked at all times! sun makes it fade and you'll need a re-color WAAAY too soon in life. if you have it some where it's gonna be covered by clothes, buy a surgical pad (cotton covered with a thin plastic like the middle of a bandaid) and keep it covered while you're clothed. try not to band-aid it 'cause if you pull the adhesive it may accidentally tear/rough up your sore skin. nothing like wasting lots of money on a botched tattoo! also, when you're home, leave it naked as possible, just bacitracin and no surgical pad covering. skin needs to breathe to heal. don't scratch if it peels a bit, even if it itches!

Start by gently rubbing the area clean with your fingertips, DO NOT SCRUB
Make sure you are using an antibacterial soap
after the 2nd or 3rd day you can generally switch to an unscented lotion that does not contain alcohol (personally use Lubriderm ultra healing)
Can also use a product called H2 ocean
look up tattosbymundo.com
has an aftercare section on his site

I used Bag Balm. It is used on cow teats for chapping. I was told to use this by a tattoo artist with the nicest/oldest tat's I have ever seen... I asked him how he kept his color-he told me to NEVER use an antibiotic cream or vaseline.

i bought it at my local drugstore-it is in a green square tin.

I have all my original color, and it has been over 2 years now!

Good luck!

p.s. the Bag Balm stinks so use it a bit sparingly...

You can use any type of anti bacterial ointment but for me personally, I have always used Neosporian. Put it on twice a day for the first few days and then once a day for another week. Make sure you wash the area really well with soap daily.

I just had my last tat finished 2 weeks ago... My tat guy gives out packs of A&D ointment, or he also sells 'Tattoo Goo'... most antibacterial oinments are ok, but your tat guy shoulda told you his reccommendations. NEVER use Neosporin (I was told to use that for my first tat, and the color isn't what it should have been). Call the person who did the tat for you and ask, they'll tell you what to use.

keep it clean with your basic warm water, mild soap, and use a gentile moisturizer (johnson's baby lotion works great!*) until after you've had it for about six months, then use your everyday lotion.

*note-don't use baby OIL. It will irritate the skin and the ink may have a reaction to it!

A&D diaper ointment. Just enough to put a light coating on it - & of course, don't pick or scratch your tattoo.
